We're going around Singapore, KL, and Phuket for our honeymoon next year, just happens to coincide with the Malaysian GP.
Would be a shame not so go, since we're there anyway right?

Just wondering, has anyone been?
Where's a good place to get a seat?

Also in general, where's a better place to view at a GP?
Along a straight, so you can see them go whizzing by at silly speeds.
Or on a corner, so you can appreciate the massive levels of grip the cars generate?

The plus with a corner is you also see the cars for longer?

Hang on, just checked some ticket prices!
200-500EURO!!!

Surely their having a laugh?

I'll be there as well next March, staying with the g/f's family. I've asked a local friend for his recommendations on tickets.

Yep, I was there for the first one, fantastic place, as it was the first GP there it was a little disorganised, we sat facing the pits, plenty of seating around the track, but you really need some shade as it's very hot !!

KL is a fantastic city, even better when the GP is in town and extremely safe.

Singapore also fantastic, even safer and oh so clean.

Phuket, ok bit third world, make sure you stay in one of the good hotels, unless you fancy roughing it, we stayed in the chedi, which was great.

I'd say you want a corner. And if I remember correctly the last corner is after a long straight and leads into a long straight and/or the pits...so you'd get car approaching at speed, hard braking, cornering, and thrasing off again to the start/finish.

Cheers guys

Munter: You would pick some of the more expensive seats wouldnt you?

Yeah I think shade will be a definite consideration. Was considering getting a ticket in an open grandstand ie turn 3 (K3) or C3 and getting some big as umbrellas.
But that'll piss people behind us off.

HOLY crap. Diamond has sold out ALREADY.

Oh well, it's prolly once in a lifetime for me, so what's the expense just this once!

At the moment I'd be going for the Tower or K1 (turn 1). Nothing like 20 F1 cars all trying to squeeze into the first corner together

I also went to the first ever GP at Sepang, fantastic circuit. KL is a fantastic city went back last year for a few days as part of my honeymoon. Also stayed in Singapore on the Honeymoon for a few days and preferred KL. Singapore seemed too clinical and not enough character, compared to KL.

As regards the Grand Prix I was in the main straight grandstand towards the first corner end. You definitely need to be in the shade. It gets hot, very hot, very very hot, and if not in the shade you'll burn in minutes! I was near the end of the main grandstand facing the pits and the shade had gone about 30 minutes before the end of the race as the sun came round, and people around me just fried. I had long trousers, and a floppy straw hat, so looked a fool but didn't burn! Lots of water is an essential item!

The important bit for any Grand Prix circuit is to be near a TV screen so you can see what is happening elsewhere, and to remeber a pocket radio to hear the circuit commentary!

Went to the 1st race at Bahrain this year, where again it was hot, very hot, in spite of the clouds, and must admit I preferred Bahrain as viewing better and had a TV screen easily visible!

So find out where the TV screens are, unsure you'll be in the shade and thats it! By the way grand prix merchandise costs the same at all Grand Prixs, however you'll get a good deal on "genuinue" (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) gear in the chinese market in KL.

Went in 2003 - happened to be in KL on business. Tickets for the weekend worked out at £40 for Friday-Sunday and taxi from central KL was only about £10 each way.

That was for the general area (nearest the 'M' of Malaysia in the map posted earlier) you can see 75% of the circuit from there and it's much cheaper than the grandstands.

Transport around the circuit was excellent, although the paddock displays were a bit limited.

Comic display by two Malaysian Air Force F/A-18 Hornets - daring each other to fly lower and lower, whilst demonstrating none of the precision of the Red Arrows

Well, booked the tickets, Turn 1 it is.
GPTickets.com actually recomended me the first corner rather than the tower. Which was cool of them, esp since the first corner was cheaper than the tower.

Cant wait now, only a couple of months now. Oh yeah, and some wedding thing before hand.

Oh yeah, not going to Phuket anymore, Langkawi instead.

cheers for all the advice

Turn 1 is a good choice - I think where you really want to watch the cars is in a braking zone, or a place where they change direction. The way F1 cars manage both of these things is mindblowing.
