Well at long long long last I have done it bought my first Porsche a 97 993 Cab (picked it up yesterday lunch time) and I thought I would just post a few observations, having looked at 996's and 993's for the last couple of months and now having owned a 993 for about 18hrs !!!!!

1. Why didn't I do this years ago ( had 4 TVR's why ?)

2. Comming from a Tvr chimaera 500 the 996 would have been very boring

3. It has a massive sense of ocasion

4. Is it made from granite ?

5. How far are the radio buttons from the drivers seat !!

6. I drive it like a girl, wet leaves, storms, torrential rain I had it all since owning it

7. How weird are the pedals ( I am getting used to it)

8. How do you keep to the speed limits ? On my own personal test track last night sixth gear 2000 revs about 85mph !!!!

9. Gears, how many !! and how come I am allways in the wrong one !!

10.Very glad I got air con (from the steaming up point of view)

11. 993 + legal limit tyres + Newbie + Leaves and rain = Need new tryres very very quickly.

12. I love it !!!

Thats all for now better just go and have another look at it just to make sure its real

>Yes

>Once you get used to them, you'll think all cars should be built this way.

8. How do you keep to the speed limits ? On my own personal test track last night sixth gear 2000 revs about 85mph !!!!
>Funny, mine doesn't pull that hard over 150mph...

9. Gears, how many !! and how come I am allways in the wrong one !!
>6th will take you from 1000rpm to 6000rpm without much trouble, just add throttle.

10.Very glad I got air con (from the steaming up point of view)
> Air cooled 911's have one flaw (ish) - ventilation.

12. I love it !!!
>We all do...

CONGRATULATIONS!
And welcome to the "i'm a smug git" club.
993's aren't the fastest, or the biggest, or the lightest, or the best looking, or number 1 at anything really, but if this is the last car i ever own i won't complain.

Congratulations, the next addition after new boots should be a sports exhaust of some kind....this is a defo after coming from a TVR.

www.fabspeed.com should give you some audio inclinations of what to expect.

As said there are many of us who have converted from TVR's of late, cannot honestly understand the sudden switch by so many lately

Thanks

Martyn.

I think that's 3000 rpm for 85 mph - unless yours has very tall gears.

Gears - Just forget 5th. unless you're on a fast A-Road and forget 6th unless you're on the motorway - 3rd. and 4th. are great for blatting around!

Lovely car - Hope you enjoy it - just wait until you drive it on a dry road

Enjoy!

These 993s have so much character and sound fantastic - must sound even better with the roof down.

Just wish the weather was a little better!

Welcome to 993 ownership, I cant beleive that it took you so long to discover the most useable sports car ever built! You will have bad days but just keep the faith.

Enjoy!

I can't wait for a dry road, and am currently thinking up some spurious reason to leave the office by about 3pm providing its still sunny !!

Drop the top and go for blast home.

rear tyres now ordered conti contact n1's to match the front's ( I hope this is the best choice) being fitted on saturday.

Just need a new carrera badge for the back as some one has nicked the old one, the car is met black so what colour bagde shoud it be dlack or chrome ?

I found myself doing this loads in the first few weeks.

I had waited a long time to get mine too.

Even found myself thinking 'fk me that's a nice car' when returning to it in a car park a split second before realising it was mine! Lovely moment.

Don't they smell great too.

18 hours in eh? Don't worry it will just get better.

Enjoy the moment! You guys are seriously interfering with my work output.

I've put down a deposit on a 993 C4 and I'm waiting for the dealer to call me and tell me when it's ready for collection. After the initial excitement of finding it and negotiating the deal, I've managed to calm myself down (helped by the thought of the readies I'm going to have to shell out for it).

My big problem is that I work a lot from home, and I will be able to see it parked up on the drive from my home office. I'm not going to get much work done. (Maybe I will be able to just sit in it and work? my wireless netwoork extends that far).

I've so far managed to resist the temptation of loitering around the dealer premises and also of pestering them on the phone everyday. However , this thread is not helping.

Yes, congratulations! I got to a 993 through TVR too and I wouldn't have missed the Tiv experience for a moment -- but the 993 is just on a different planet.

If you've come from a V8 TVR with straight-through pipes, then you'll be needing some Fabspeed Supercups...

VERY loud, no good for trackdays though. Let's put it this way, I had a Griff 500, and it sounded meek and mild compared to my 993 on Supercups...

The Porker may initially feel refined and boring compared with a TVR, but you can seriously make them roar

Congratulations mate!

What a great purchase and thanks for sharing the enthsiasm!

I still can't believe I have a 993TT sometimes. SUCH a SOLID car! Feels nicely taught on the road too!
I think I'll take mine for an extended run this weekend!

I initially found it soo hard to keep to speed limits. I have calmed down even more when driving this now though, there just is no need to prove anything to anyone anymore!

Have fun!

Another new owner
Hi phib
I also owned a Tvr and read most of your posts on that forum during my ownership. As you i've recently coverted to the German marc and i kicked myself for not doing it sooner. I went for the 996 after spending a few months deliberating. It's such a refreshing change to shut the door without something falling off!! Enjoy your new toy.

Enjoy.
