My bella needs a bit of a spruce up in the paint department. It's a black estate, so I dare say it will take a bit of wax to do the whole thing.

I'm not doing any fancy cleaning routine beforehand - just a good wash and drying off.

My criteria:

- No more than 15 quid
- Easy to apply, and easy to clean off, without having to wait hours to complete the process; I just want to apply it, and get rubbing (so to speak)
- I want to avoid load of white powder as a result(like the good old MER days)
- Minimal swirling etc

At my disposal:

- 2 hands
- Soft polishing cloths (the cut to length jobs)
- An old t-shirt

Ideally, as I have a Halfords voucher to hand, I want to get it from there.

Ideas?

Zaino Z5 Pro does a great job on my sapphire black BMW. In budget, no white marks, easy to use. Not from Halfords though!
I have some Meguairs stuff too (which Halfords will sell) but the Zaino is better.

Halfords sell a kit called Turtle Wax Black Box (no sniggering at the back) which is specifically designed for black paint. Might be a bit more expensive than your budget though, and maybe a bit more work too (as it is a multi-stage product...

...hmm, should have put a bit more thought into this, shouldn't I?!

PoorBoys Black Hole Glaze is a good start for removing swirls and getting a good shine. You'll need wax on top of that, Natty's Blue would be a good match. Unfortunately each one is about £15, but worth it.

Thanks folks. However, bar the runner-up option of Meguairs, we're still struggling for a Halfords-availble option. Definitely looking for a one-stage option as well, with just the one bottle required for the whole job.

Come on PH... you've never let me down to date!

Black Hole and Nattys Blue wax is my combo for black.

The missus old car the day before we part exed it, after a good combo of the above! If you haven't clayed your car though, I would do that, otherwise that rubbish will hide the shine!

My favourite 1 step product is Auto Finesse Tripple, although it isn't available from Halfords it is under £10. I'd suggest using the Halfords voucher to buy some microfibre cloths and a lambswool washmitt so you don't reintroduce the swirls the next time you wash it.

If it has to be Halfords available (better to go for online products tbh imo) then wait till they have their 3 for 2 offer on and get:

Megs quick clay (to remove contaminents)
Autoglym Super Resin Polish (to help correct the paint, also has fillers in so will help to slightly hide the marks you can't polish out)
Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection (to protect your paint from contaminent build up, bird droppings etc)

Should see all 3 for around £30 with the offer and the SRP and EGP will last you at least a year if not more.

You're better to prep the paint properly otherwise you'll wonder why the wax you've bought doesn't really make your car look much better. If you can't be bothered with the prep and just want something to protect your paint then go for a pot of Natty's blue. From an online vendor it'll be about £12.99 plus p&p and wait a couple of days for it to arrive in the post.

Once you get the cleaning bug you'll want to move up to the likes of Dodo, Auto Finesse, Swissvax etc. wink

If only want to spend 15 quid than I believe your wasting your time. While using lots of elbow grease your mind will be telling your eyes that you can see an improvement for a bargain 15 quid, but in reality deep down and only realised on a sunny day afterwards that it was a waste of time. Sorry for the negative advice, but have been there already.

Second vote for poorboys ... Find it as good as waxes that cost three times as much .. But he key to any result is alars h prep and doing it properly.

This. the extra Gloss Protection really is going the extra mile as SRP does such a good job. Do not use too much as this will cause the white powder.

I've had decent results with Britemax Black Max polish and Dodo Juice Basics of Bling wax.

Before that, I used AG SRP and some Meguiars carnauba wax (can't remember the exact name, but it was in a red bottle and smelled gorgeous) and that was pretty good too.
