Just bought a red Lotus Élan +2.

The boot looks like it was off a different car and, unlike the rest of the paint, is faded.

Which off the shelf stuff should I use? I expect t- cut is too aggressive.

No to t-cut - esp on fibre glass!!!

If you can get hold of it, try Menzerna super finish followed by and good sealant or if your really want a top end finish Mitchell & Kind Anti Static which is made for fibre glass and plastic body work.

Cheers

Is that menzerna usable by hand? I am not a car polishing guy and don't have electric polishing machines etc

Out of interest, why not? It's hardly massively abrasive and we are talking about a layer of paint aren't we?
Just wondered...

Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and/or Ultimate Polish will give you a good shot at reviving the colour fairly easily by hand.

Only as it's over priced rubbish which does not breakdown- compounds such as menzera will breakdown as you use them ie the "grit" gets smaller as you use it hence not damaging the paintwork if over used
