Hope this is the the right section for this.
Put an unknown secondhand gearbox in my car as my old one lost reverse.

The new box works fine but on part throttle or full throttle the box whines badly in gear.soon as you come off the gas the whine stops.back on the gas the whine is straight back.

I think this is the bearing set in the gearbox rather than the diif bearings because if the diff bearings were worn I assume id get the whining in neutral when coasting but I dont get that at all.
In neutral its quiet but as soon as a gear is engaged the whine is there if youre on the gas.

If the whine wasn't there beforehand then that is your answer.

Wouldn't the thrust bearing make a noise all the time when the clutch is up, whether in gear or in neutral?
