Hi

A week ago my wipers started going slow, and occasionally stopping when they were going across the screen. Washed still works fine. Rear window works fine, and the fuse is ok. Can't hear a noise from the wiper motor when they should be going.

Am I right in thinking the motor Is buggered?

Help much appreciated!

Cheers

Start by checking whether there is power arriving at the motor when its switched on & that the earthing arrangements are in good order. Use a 12v test bulb rather than a digital multimeter as the meter may well show 12+ volts but insufficient power is actually getting there. Catches a lot of people out.
Also worth checking the motor with a direct feed from the battery.
If all is OK then, yes, your motor is probably what you think it is.

Also worth checking the earth is OK, and make sure the gearbox grease hasn't gone solid.

What car is it? On some cars (notably some VAG models) the wiper spindles are prone to seizing up.

I would agree its probably the motor but if you have the gear to test the electrics then do that before you by a new motor and fit it.

My only advice is if you have to remove the wiper arms and you are struggling to get them off then get yourself a puller. I made the mistake of putting a towel down on my windscreen and then using a long screwdriver to lever the arms off very gently however this was fatal despite being gentle, ended up having to replace the windscreen.

good luck.

When I had problems with my wipers stopping on the windscreen it turned out to be the Relay from the fuse box. If you have a relay for another function (windows, abs etc) with the same part code, swap it as a test to see if it solves the problem.
