Handbrake seized or brake pads seized to disk?

Brake pads one can normally free with a bit off throttle action (Its sounds painful, but its not doing any real harm) If that doesn't work Martins approach is the way forward.

I tend not to leave the handbrake on if I can help it when parking, but even then its no guarantee of preventing binding.

p.s. try and dry the discs before parking up if its been wet by applying the brakes whilst moving just before parking up.

Don't use it, I never leave mine on when parked, especially overnight, for that very reason. I have always done this. Saves the cable and all. Just leave in gear.

Anyway, at least yours works, mine won't come on at all.

Visit to Noble this afternoon should fix it.

Pads being siezed to disk is nothing to do with the handbrake as the handbrake has it's own brake shoes in the drum incorporated into the rear disk assembly.

Its happened to me this morning. Did anyone come up with a solution, or is it time to send for a 'man who can'?

Loads a revs, dump clutch. Honest, it works, mine felt seized this week, Lotus used to do the same.

After doing it, drive with left foot on brake pedal for a few yards to clean the disk area, not too much pressure.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Trouble is, its in the garage and if shoot out of there at 100mph I need to try and miss the door frame....

It's a common problem and comes about if you've driven in the wet and then parked the car up with the handbrake on.

For that reason I always leave my handbrake off and just leave it in 1st when it's in the garage.

You don't need to shoot off at 100mph, just 3000rpm or so and sharp swift "on-offs" with the clutch increasing the travel. After the 1st or second it'll snap free, but if you then stick the clutch back in the car will hardly go anywhere.

This doesn't always work for me - I park with the handbrake off but, after washing, if I don't go for a reasonably long drive (particularly in this damp weather) before storage, at least one wheel locks up anyway! The sound when it frees off is horrible - I can't believe it locked so solidly!

Thanks for the hints. Problem solved. Horrible noise when brakes released. Now all I need is a lung transplant from all the exhaust fumes in the garage!
