Driving home today I noticed a tapping sound coming from the rear of the car, increasing in frequency with speed, but only present when accelerating. With my foot off the gas and when changing gear the noise disappears. How worried should I be? I'm going to get it seen to ASAP - any ideas what the problem might be?

Praying it will be a warranty fix/simple repair...

Julian,

I had this irritating problem a couple of weeks ago and dannyit correctly diagnosed it as a loose brake pad. The tapping/clicking noise like yours was increasing as I increased speed (seemed to be in direct relationship to the turning of the wheels). Danny told me to listen for the tapping under braking and if it disappears is likely to be the brake pad(s).

Hope this helps

Dan

P.S. this was on a cerb though.

I had something similar on my Griff, it was the diff bush and mounting plate that had gone.

FKING THING!!

Whatever the minor noise was just got a whole lot worse. In fact went BANG on my short drive home. No transmission, stuck in the middle of an extremely busy roundabout at rush hour. Lots of jeers (thanks a bunch aeholes) from the traffic I held up.

I expected this sort of thing when I bought it, I suppose.

About to accompany it to David Batty's garage (70 miles away). DAMMIT!

Sounds pretty much like a problem on my Griff. It found to be the nearside outer UJ. Only made the noise under load. I replaced all of them, as if one is going the rest can't be far behind.
They are the same as late Ford Granada I think. Good luck.

Well, David Batty is going to call me with a diagnosis, and fix a bunch of minor problems at the same time. Hope it's back in time for Duxford!
