I've just been filling out my licence renewal for my Rally licence, currently Rally National B Stage upgrading to include Rally National A Navigator.

I thought about getting myself elevated to International status because I've got enough previous, but it occurred to me that there is no Rally International Navigator licence, only Rally International...which is a rally drivers licence!

So it looks as though I could get to the position of being able to drive a car on an international status event without ever having driven a rally car in anger and without having done a BARS course!

A bit of an oversight by the MSA don't you think!

it's always been so, you just needed to have the required 6 (i think) finishes from Nat b. at one time you could upgrade by finishing road rallies

Yeah, but wouldn't you think that I'd at least have to 'drive' the car on an event instead of navigating?

I think it depends upon when you got your licence.

Nowadays to get a drivers licence you have to do a BARS test, but to get a navigators licence, you don't. But you can't drive with a Rally Navigator B or Rally Navigator A...but once you get to International there is no differentiation between the two roles with only one licence available...that was the point I was trying to make.
