Ctrl + Alt + E = é
Ctrl + Alt Shift + E = É
For a list of all sorts of non-standard characters hit "Run" in your Start Menu and type charmap. You can then double click on the characters you want and hit "Copy" to copy them to your clipboard. Fonts like "Symbol" and "Wingdings" are particularly useful.
