Found a 3.2 Carrera which is very nice and was planning on having JZ Machtech do a pre-purchse inspections, however, JZ Machtech do the inspection on their premises and the garage is not willing for the vehicle to go to leave their premises, though they are happy to have someone come to them.

So, my question is, does anyone know of a decent specialist who will inspect a 1983 3.2 Carerra Coupe at the garage its being sold at?

The car is very clean and tidy and the main thing im after is a leak down test.

Thanks.

911 & Porsche World magazine usually has several independent testers advertising in their classified sections at the back.

I can whole heartedly recommend Peter Morgan. He did a great job on my 993 cab. Very professional and detailed report. And he will go to the car.

dont the garage that the car is at have the equipment for a leak down test? if so, cannot the inspecting engineer just use the kit available? or cant the garage do the test in the presence of your inspector? Your request is entirely reasonable for a car of this age, after all

Thanks for all the speedy replies, this I feel is what makes pistonheads great, lots of helpful people.

I went with Peter Morgan, even though he cannot do a leakdown test, he says there are plenty of other checks he can do that can give him an idea of the state of the engine.

So I await his report.

Thanks again for all the advice from people.

Please would you post to let us know how he diagnoses leakages without doing such a test, and is he going to perform a compression test? (the kit for this is portable).

How can he not be able to do a leakdown test? Compression gauge, squeege bottle with a little oil in (and that only because its a boxer) and youre set and a childs ratchet set to remove the spark plugs

It's probably more to do with liability insurance. If he does the test and then the engine wont start who's fault is it. (Ok 199 out of 200 times there will be no problem...). It's just easier to avoid removing anything from the car, then theres no question of you doing any (supposed) damage.
