Just seen this on the BBC website.
Suppose it had to happen sometime, but it's a shame one of the few people everyone seems to respect is standing down.

Professor Sid Watkins, Formula One's medical chief, is to retire from his post with immediate effect.
The 76-year-old, known as 'Prof', will be replaced by his assistant Gary Hartstein, an associate professor of anaesthesiology and emergency medicine.

Max Mosley, president of motorsport's governing body the FIA said: "Sid has made a unique contribution to improving safety throughout motorsport."

Watkins will become president of the new Institute for Motor Sport Safety.

Thankfully he is still involved in safety

it really is a shame. although hopefully he might get cracking on his autobiograhy.

If you havnt read his books then you've missed out, i thought the first one was a brilliant read. A very clever, sensible and funny man, who believes all racing drivers are a bit dim. anecdotes ahoy!

Messrs Watkins and Whiting are possibly the only two "gentlemen" left in F1. Always a pleasant word for even the lowest of the low on the F1 circus (i.e. me)
