In perhaps the most pointless press release of the year so far, McLaren Corporate Partner (meaning supplier of freebies) Tag Heuer, have announced that stroppy Colombian racer, Juan Pablo Montoya, has become the latest ‘ambassador’ for the Swiss clockmakers. As far as one can tell, being an ambassador will not involve Juan being posted off to a far away embassy (although it is a nice thought) or negotiating peace in the Middle East, but instead simply revolves around him wearing a Carrera timepiece and appearing in the window display of an Ernest Goldsmiths Jewellers somewhere near you. This stunning news, deemed worthy of a full page article in McLarens mind numbingly dull, ‘Racing Line’ magazine, follows hot on the heels of the announcement (another full page job in said magazine) of Kimi Raikkonen’s forthcoming Nescafe Xpress ‘point-of-sale fuel station promotion'. Oh the excitement of McLaren !
