Hi,

I've been wanting to take my Tuscan on the track pretty much ever since I bought it. My question is which track is right for me? (is there much of a choice?)

I have no experience of track days at all so should I try a performance driving day first? Is there such a day that includes track time?

Which is the easiest track - I would like long fast straights and acres of lawn to run off into if the worst came to the worst! Basically I'm looking for a track with the smallest risk of me damaging my pride and joy!

One last question - what should I expect to pay? I'd rather pay more, and not have to swerve to avoid "Souped-Up Sh1t-Mobiles" (as my wife calls the bolt-on boys!), and what sort of numbers do you normally get on tracks? Is it quite crowded or is there actually quite a lot of space?

Kind regards, Shamus

Hi, I did my first track day a couple of months back and having similar criteria to you I chose id-club (www.id-club.com). It was run by a guy called Martin Polley and was at Bruntingthorpe, there were only 3 other cars there so we had our own instructor for the day! It was pretty much up to us what we wanted to do, so I opted to learn about car control and also had several great sessions round the circuit. Take a look at www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=12314&f=18&h=0. I would highly recommend it as you very much drive the agenda, £250 well spent! Martin's a really nice guy so have a chat with him if you have any doubts/concerns.

For your first day Bedford Autodrome (Jonathon Palmer's Motorsport Sensation owns is) is extremely good. First rate accident/medical facilities and, more importantly, huge run-offs so its virtually impossible to damage your beloved. There are no kerbs, armco, rumble strips, gravel, etc just concrete merging smoothly into rolled fields. I've seen cars spin off at 120mph+ and just drive back on. Unlike almost every other circuit I've visited, including Bruntingthorpe...

Well, I'm going to my first track day this Saturday, at Donington. The last time I was there for the Powertour, a Marcos hit the wall at the end of the main straight and went up in a ball of flame! I hope that's not usual!! I'm putting the 16" wheels on because they're cheaper than replacing 18" Toyo's....

Anyone else going?
