When I reverse and have the steering on full lock to the left I get a lurvely grating noise from the front end. It never happens going forwards and it never happens full lock to the right

Anyone got any bright ideas because I'm getting tired of the neighbours pointing at me.

First thought - have you PAS?

Check the fluid level, it's a common noise on mine as the rack manages to lose a little fluid each day.

Check for the front tyre fouling on something on full lock.

Thanks folks, I don't have PAS so I'm clear there. I couldn't see anywhere where there may be rubbing and the tyre isn't showing any signs either.

Someone at work suggested it may be something to do with the UJ, any thoughts?

How about killing the neighbours?

ok - that's a bit extreme. Glue their ears up instead...

Park on level ground with left lock on, and push it back by hand. If you can hear the noise, you should be able to locate it pretty quickly. If not, you will need to get somebody to drive it (slowly) while you listen from outside.

OK, in order of suggestions:
1. I killed the neighbours, two are in the garden and the dwarf is in the window box. (Please don't send the police around I'm only kidding)
2. Couldn't do the glue (see 1 above)
3. I have put the car on level ground and pushed backwards. The noise only happens when the suspension is loaded. I reverse up a slope that rises steeply from the level so I'm guessing that something in the suspension is bottoming out.
