I am researching my best option for a 2nd car in california, does anyone know what the latest models exported to the US were (hoping it was the V8S) and if not which models/years will meet the Catalytic Converter regs? My price limit is about $12k (english dosh) so I figure I'll be scraping the lower end of the post wedge V8s, although I daren't think what it will cost to get the car over here!

Appreciate any help anyone can give as it's pretty tough researching from abroad other than through the web and kind folks like yourselves.

Having just read the board specifically regarding importing cars to the US, which probably would have been the smart thing to do before I posted! I wish I could delete my own post as I'm obviously a little behind the times with the whole US issue! I guess I'll join the long line of people awaiting a practical solution to the issue.

You could contact the TVRCC North America - I'm sure they know what will pass the regs. Details in Sprint.

Officially it was a Tasmin 280i in 1987. V8s were never officially exported but some were sent to Canada along with Griffi and S series cars.

I think it Faisal Khan who has exported a few TVRs to the States, he is proably your best bet relating to the laws/oddities of this issue.

He tends to be in the TVR in USA boards. If you look for his profile you can probably contact him that way.

If you want to wait until next June (and assuming you can sort the "legals") my 1999 Silver Chimaera (with Tuscan light upgrade) will be in the US and up for sale....

Latest TVRCCNA newsletter shows 85 - 87 280i Tasmins going for around $8 to $11k. A couple of 390SEs were sneaked in but the owners insist that they now have the original Ford V6 fitted

I've seen a couple of cars with Ford or Chevy V8 power under the bonnet (hood) and this would be the route I'd take if I was stranded in the USA with no TVR.

Details of the TVRCCNA can be found here http://clubs.hemmings.com/frameset.cfm?club=tvr

Cheers for the help to all who replied. Cutmonster, how are you getting your car in, which part of the US and why would you sell it? I would be very interested assuming the BS can be dealt with.
