Dropped into Goodwood on Saturday and had a freebie decibel check (there was a BARC meeting). My Griff 500 with standard exhaust measured 99db one side, 96db the other. I have booked a trackday there next week with a limit of 98db, and they will not take an average! Any cheap ideas for losing one decibel? Does wire wool and chicken wire really work? And why such a difference between my pipes?
Thanks in advance.

The 2 pipes share a silencer box but run separately, its possible that one side has less packing left in it
Solution, check out some of the banners for TVR upgades. most companies do tail silencers.

I had the same split noise level prob, borderline like yours, but was let out on the track after a recheck of the quiet side!
The chicken wire/wirewool comment was a bit tongue in cheek. However it should work in principle (but not be very long lived ) so if I was looking at being sent home I would deffinately give it a go.
Tailpipe inserts are they way to go. Take em with you &b pop them in if you fail the noise test. Keep em nice & shiny if you dont. I shall be getting some soon.
Alternatively you could waste a load of cash on a new exhaust.

As an alternative to a new exhaust have your silencer repacked with fibreglass wadding. Should be no more than £150.
