Hi Y'all
Does anyone have any experience of being involved in Car club "good works" such as taking sick (eg cancer) kids for jaunts?? I think the Porsche club does this sort of thing. I'd like to put it to Fraser or Lotus club so need some background.Ta

Personally, no.... but I'd imagine calling up the porsche or ferrari club presidents/secretaries would be a fine start.... I think these are the sorts of car USUALLY associated with this sort of event (EVERY kid knows what a Ferrari is right?)

And I don't know if it's my eyesight but when I first saw this thread I thought it said "kinky rides" and I thought "man this place is going downhill fast"

Never done one of these myself but have discussed it with others who have. I think the key points are :
- Make sure you have more than enought committed drivers that are reliable (both the drivers and the cars) plus a few spares.
- Plan it well in advance with the charity
- Make the start and finish times VERY clear (if it runs on too long you end up annoying the drivers)
- Make the charity responsible for getting the kids to the venue and back (unless for example it's from Starship to the Domain and back)
- Get approval from the Council (if it's based in a reserve)
- Try to get the BiB to assist
- Ensure there is an appropriate ratio of parents or caregivers
- Sort out some sponsorships for lunch, kiddie drinks, caps, balloons, photos of kids in the cars . . .
- Sort out the contingency plans such as First Aid person, Mobile phone lists, Reserve Day (in case of bad weather)

You need sufficient people to look after the details and do the hard work so the kids and the drivers can have fun

Awesome, thorough response!
Thanks heaps
I know they're doing a fundraising show at Logan campbell centre next month (for the Ron mc Don house) so may just offer transport there.

Great idea
Would that be dry-weather transport only ?

It's a generous offer and a great cause . . . be very clear about what will happen if the weather isn't great.

Best of luck

Heheh thanks Roger

That's what a 16-hour stint at work staring at a computer screen will do to you.... mind and eyes start playing tricks on you

Good stuff Roger... sounds brilliant... nice little event to put some smiles on kiddies' faces... I'd offer to join in but I somehow think that rides in a "Mitsubishi Spacewagon Mirage" aren't quite as sought after as they are in Frasers *strengthens resolve to move forward with TR7 Project*

The rain pretty much held off!Superb turnout-about 12 Frasers (from as far as Tauranga and Hamilton) + 2 Stags, a Tr8 and a TR6. Only hitch was that we didn't have many taKers.
It was worth it though for the grins on their faces + I've learnt a bit about how specific to be in future.
Your earlier posting (what to do) was superb by the way! Thanks for your interest.

Yeah I'd love to see some photos at some point... especially if there was a TR8 present *drool* .... sounds like all went well though and if the weather held off then you were certainly blessed.
