New Lambo concept due in March

Gallardo-based Concept S open top will be for show only

Lamborghini will unveil the Concept S, a new concept car derived from the Gallardo, at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Created by Luc Donckerwolke, head of design at the Centro Stile Lamborghini in Sant Agata, Bologna, the Concept S is an extreme expression of Lamborghini styling. Donckerwolke drew inspiration from the classic single-seater racing cars of the past to create his interpretation of an open cockpit car. Like the 350 GTS and the Miura Roadster, the Lamborghini Concept S is the only one of its kind.

One of the main features of the classic racecars, the sauté-vent windscreen, has been developed by Donckerwolke and now gives the Concept S its aggressive and futuristic look. The small screen, which directs air over the driver’s head, divides the cabin into two compartments creating a space between them that acts as an additional air inlet for the powerful mid-mounted engine.

Front and rear spoilers and a large rear diffuser optimise the aerodynamics of the Concept S, and an electronically controlled, retractable central mirror provides the driver with rear viewing capability.

Sadly there are no plans for production, and the Concept S will, in Lamborghini's words, "remain Lamborghini’s unique expression of an open cockpit vehicle".

Yes, it is rather lovely, isn't it. Hope the production version has a better type of roof than the murcielago roadster, because from what I've read you need a regiment of boy scouts to set the damn thing up. Actually, who gives a damn what I hope, because I really can't afford one, so let any potential owners decide that one. Ha!

(Note that having a regiment of boy scouts around your flash motor will most likely make you look like a high rolling paedophile, and no doubt cause a scandal in the tabloids)

It's the sort of shape that Hot Wheels would have produced a few years ago. Stunning!

Stunning car but what a waste of money! Surely lambo doesn't make enough money to be doing this and making a profit so wouldn't money be better spent on a production car?

I disagree - Lambo trades on it's reputation for cutting-edge design at the extreme end...it needs to maintain that image. As for what this cost versus what they could have added to / changed on the production cars...it wouldn't have made THAT much difference, and it's not as if Lambo buyers are particularly influenced by the introduction of the latest "killer app", unlike buyers of BM's, Audis, Merc's etc.

Pish posh! I know the cockpit design is a little unusual, but like Lamborghini aren't going to make a cabriolet version? Ferrari has with the F430 (which, according to Wheels Magazine is the better car than the gallardo) and they did with mr. Murcie. It would be stupid not to, even if it was hidieosly expensive. they need to put pressure on the prancing pony, says I. Never mind the article. The article is bollox.

(sorry to rant) B-o-l-l-o-c-k-s. S'how you spell it, damned spellymathingy

I think this "roadster" should be understood merely as a one-off as the Gallardo cab is already in the pipe although it unfortunately won't feature the same bodywork of the car showed here.
