The pressure drop in the Carb causes Carb ice. This causes the moisture in the air to freeze and drastically. I drive my Mini, most days, to work which is a 100 mile round trip. I am running twin HS6’s with trumpets and since November I have been suffering from ice.
The normal procedure is;
Nice long run on a duel carriageway at about half throttle, approach a junction and the engine runs really rough and I have to keep my food on the loud pedal to keep the engine from stalling. Usually when I arrive at my place of work I have to wait in a queue for Security checks, it’s the same story there, rough running and foot on the gas. After a while, maybe 2 mins the ice clears and the engine runs sweet again, that’s as the heat rises up from the exhaust and heats up the intakes.
I have taken a look under the bonnet when the problem was really bad and seen the carbs white with ice!!!!!
This is normally a problem associated with light Aircraft.
