Hi

How much should I pay for a Maserati 3200 GT Auto? 2000 model, RHD, 40K Mileage. Downside is not much in the way of history and Cat D write off in 2003. Car has been repaired but obviously still on HPI.

Any guesses what its worth? Thanks in advance..

Yep - even less than that even - 1999 cars are down to sub £20k. ISTR a silver 2000 car in a salvage yard some months ago - frontal and rear panel damage only but they wanted a lot of money for the car at the time

Sod buying it - wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. MAn I lvoe the 3200 - it's a great car, but I wouldn't touch a rebuilt one with a shiddy stick unless its an authorised dealer ground up repair...

if you do ahve to buy it make sure the leather is grade A inside, get the engine checked out too.

Buy badly and you could easily be looking at 7k to sort the car out for only a few mionor jobs....

Agree with Mr Tony, you would really struggle to sell it on. Would have to be very very cheap to be worthwhile.

Very bad history. Need to get it on a jig to make sure the things strieght. Otherwise you would be stupid to buy it. Price of 12k is probably ok. Just expect serious bill's.

Fully agree with that based on current dealer charges. Also don't forget that even after spending Mr T's 7K, the car still has an HPI history and is therefore worth no more for all the effort. That said, could make a good track car at the right price but that assumes you are "hands-on" with the spanners.

what makes everyone think this car is not as good as any other you may see for sale? the car may come with little history but a quick call to the previous owner will fill in the blanks.lets face it,he only got rid of it because he crashed it and the insurance company paid out,not because it was a pile of unreliable crap he was sick of!(often referred to as genuine reason for sale!) the best thing to do is to have it inspected by autolign or the aa,who can check the quality of the repairs, and haggle hard.then treat it as if you bought a straight one,ie.accept it will lose half of its value in the next few years, and resell it (after all,you know it will sell for 8k in three years time) good luck!

Too many about for good money for anyone to want to touch a car that's got black marks.

These cars are notoriously expensive to run if you get a lemon. And a car that's been pranged heavily enough to warrant it showing like skid marks on its history is never going to be sell, unless it is very, very, very, very cheap.

I'd walk.

The perception of others! MEchanically it may be sound, and if you're buying it to keep forever good luck to you, but if you're ever going to sell it again, don't buy this one!

I'm not saying that its mechanically any worse than any other car out there, Cat D or otherwise. Perfectly decent looking fully historied second hand buys have been found to require warranty work in the region of 5k+. These are expensive cars to run, and buying one with no guarantees and no warranty that has already had a major accident is just stacking up possible trouble!!

I'd still only buy a 3200 from either a reputable dealer, or an enthusiast with a known car with solid history and a wad of bills.

Frankly I'd be gobsmacked if the car hasn't been autoligned following its repair - that's the only way I'd entertain buying a car like this at a price that reflects its Cat D status.

Wow Im surprised its being valued so low. But then I guess the arguments are valid and without any history its always going to struggle to sell on. I decided against the car as its gonna be hard to tell what problems lurk beneth.
