Attention 5 Mile Lane users

As of today there is a Gatso on this stretch of road. Fat load of good it will do, its in the most useless position i can think of, however i know myself its very easy to stray beyond the speed limit during quite times on this stretch of road and the last thing any of us want (i imagine) is points on our licenses.

Why is it a 40 limit anyway? It used to be national speed limit years ago.

Its between the A48 (Culverhouse X to Cowbridge section) and Barry.

i think the majortity of the lanes is a 40mph speed limit because its a close road (although its got nothing on pendoylan (sp) lanes) and you occasionally get big lorries, busses and the like. In my opinion though there is only one corner in the whole section which really requires slowing down to <40mph and the rest is easily 50mph territory.

i suspect the camera is there as a result of the most recent death in the lane, althought its really too little too late and as i said above its in a lame place, most accidents happen on the long straights at the A48 end.

latest word is that the scamera could be a truvelo doo-dah which reportedly wont flash when it takes pictures :-/

Used to use that often in me Sprinter but amazed at the number of people over the line. High hedges causing a feeling of being hemmed in?

Isn't there a riding school (?) that displayed their own 40 signs before the official limit?

The cops are also hiding in the laybye b4 the camera on the right as you come from Barry. They are expecting to get you having a blast through the twisty bits.

i very rarely use 5 mile lane any more. one too many 'bad experiences' on the notorious road
