My Rear Wiper motors packed up.....
I got a replacement but the shaft (the bit that goes through the screen) is thicker than the existing one, although apart from that it works a treat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any idea if I could get the old one refurbed some place? The motors OK it’s just the gear mechanism. :-(

And anybody need one with the larger shaft, apparently it was refurbed B4 I bought it??? It sounded very quiet when plugged in.

Thanks,

I'm not sure they differed throughout the lifespan of the car. Perhaps a 911 or 928 motor?

Anyway, its a growing trend to remove the rear wioper assembly altogether and use a rubber bung. You'll save a bit of weight (if thats your thing), auguably improve the looks and save a bit on the replacement. Afterall, over 40mph on my car the rear screen stays dry anyhow.

Mine also packed up last year some time. When I enquired to Porsch-Apart they aked for reference no as there are two sizes. I didn't actually get one at the time. On mine the original had mangled itself in the gearing, motor seemed Ok. Just thought that mechanics looked a bit naf for size of screen so decided to leave it as cosmetic. Putting foot down soon clears the screen.

When stuck in traffic jams at night under heavy rain, it's pretty useful.

I have just taken mine out as the round plastic bit was broken. I have sealed the hole, and am doing without the wiper.

Which bit do you need, I will have a root around in the boot to see if I haven't binned it.
If it's there, you can have it.

Mine is a 1987 bog standard 944 btw, but don't think they had different units.

I find that a good dose of rain x and right foot clear the rear screen adequately

Hi Andy,

You purchased the wiper motor from me!

The S2 is supposed to have the larger spindle wiper motor, so yours must have been replaced at some time with the earlier type.

The one I supplied you was a refurbed one which was originally on my car, but was surplus to requirements after I got another from ebay (friend refurbed mine after I purchased one off ebay). The one I purchased from ebay (unknown to me) was an earlier one so I had to modify my wiper arm to get it to fit.

If you want we can swap them over and I can open out the wiper arm to fit the original.

Contact me through my profile if you want to go ahead with a swap.

Regards
Simon

err..how? you mean you get a clear view of two bright headlights behind you as opposed to a blurry one?

I always thought the RWW was a waste of time. the profile of the rear screen is so shallow the rain blows off when moving and when youre stopped, why do you care whats stopped behind you?

I take it you never found yourself in such conditions otherwise you wouldn't even be questioning the purpose of the rear wiper.
When it's raining hard, you're stuck in the middle of the city in heavy traffic and it's 7 pm in mid december (when the night is actually darker than very dark), traffic lights, city lights and car lights make an unhappy blurry mix in you rear view mirror and when fed up motorists take on overtaking anyone by any stupid mean I can assure it feels good being able to see everything happening in your back, in addition to bikers of all kinds who slalom between cars no matter what.

Cheers.

You probably get a better view anyway Thom as the wiper actually clears the side you are sitting on - RHD cars have the wiper in the same position as LHD... Glad they bothered to swap the windscreen wipers round though!

Not on the early cars they didn't
