Went out to the car this morning to move it back outside my house (on the street as I don't have a driveway). It'd been parked a little further down the road than usual do to water mains work being undertaken in my usual parking area which had parking suspensions in place.

What I found when I reached the car was a fking massive scratch on the bonnet. Not only is it really bloody long, it's also deep right through to silver metal underneath in places.

Obviously it was some little st head showing off to his other drunken mates or something. Absolutely boils my piss. Probably gonna cost me a fair few £ to get the whole fking bonnet resprayed. As it's a lease car that's due back in March, the missus suggested just leaving it until closer to the handback date as if I get it re-sprayed now sod's law would dictate that the scrotes would do it again.

Here's a pic:

Gutting for you mate. I've no idea on the mentality of these types of people. Jealousy? Annoyed as you've 'parked in their spot'? No justifications at all.

Either way c***s! frown

Sadly these days it seems equally likely to be the second option - people do seem to get a bit territorial about parking, and mistakenly believe that when they buy a house they get a chunk of the public highway outside thrown in.

Makes my fking blood boil.

I wouldn't be able to own a car worth more than about £500 if I had to park on the road for any length of time - I'd be worried sick.

I won't park on a public road unless I really have to - for example last week I needed to go to the bank machine and parked on the road outside the door of Farmfoods for five minutes. I was absolutely bricking it that it'd have been keyed while I left it.

I've had two cars keyed before, both parked on the street near to what was my local. Both times the full length; rear quarter, both doors and front wing. Used to happen frequently to others who parked nearby, residents and pub patrons alike. Never found out who it was.
Hope it's not too costly to remedy OP.

dont do this - if the sketch is down to the metal then itll bloom with rust in no time and ruin the panel

Had it happen to me, do not understand why people do it but never worked out who did it

Probably this.

I used to park in a residential street close to the train station for work (not outside anyone's house I might add), I had the full side of my car keyed one week, then one of my tyres let down the next. At that point I realised some nutter was making a point. The strangest one was when they mashed a cream cake into my windscreen laugh Sadly for them, I was driving an old £400 station shed so it didn't stop me parking there. I'd have loved to have caught them in the act though. smile

Get some of your missus' clear nail varnish on it as a temporary measure.

Had my M6 Cab keyed all down offside one NYE outside a pub in Marlborough of all places.
Sold it very next business day and can't bring myself to buy a nice daily driver any more.

It's actually quite liberating having a car that you don't worry about. Who is going to key a Passat CC?
Sad but true

If you are going to leave it for a while - get some rust inhibitor on it and then leave it until you are ready for the re-spray.

Make my blood boil too. I would bring back corporal punishment if I were in power.......

A guy with a Bentley had every panel on it keyed down to the metal, cost him serious ££££ to get it repaired... CCTV of the incident and it was an old tt with a scruffy dog! Guess what the plod didn't give a toss😡
I had similar a week ago, someone opened their door into mine with considerable force denting the door by the wing mirror and leaving the colour of their heap of st embedded in my paintwork. Deliberate. Yes. Will it stop me owning a nice car? No bd way

It's an odd mentality but people seem to think it justifies damaging someone else's property!

My mum has a frustrating mentality to parking along her road. Not that she'd damage a car because of it by any means but she gets annoyed when someone parks outside her house. She has a single car driveway which although tricky to reverse onto is still a parking space. But no she prefers the space outside her own house and gets shirty if I argue the point!

Sure it's a drunk idiot showing off and not someone on the road/your parked in their perceived spot?

Get a black marker pen and colour it over so you don't see it as much, I would also wait to get it fixed closer until you hand it back just in case.

Stories in here that some of the repair costs from the lease companies have been very reasonable or cheaper that getting it done yourself.

Is that the reflection of a single yellow line from under the front bumper?

Just thinking that if it was two wheels on the pavement, you might be able to add another group of people to your suspect list.

Horrible for you. May be worth asking if anybody in the street has CCTV or a car dash cam?

If it was me I would have to get it fixed straight away and would call Scratch Away or another smart repairer.
