While I decide what car to get next, my attention has turned to a w211 e55 AMG, as I no longer want to spend money on my m5 and plan on getting an f10 m5 next year.

Ive never owned a supercharged car before. I was going to supercharge that but I don't think it's worth doing.

Apart from the sbc pump, is there anything else to look for on these?

Make sure the gearbox fluid & filters have been changed & also considering it's age I'd change the diff oil to obviously listen for worn bushes & check the suspension legs don't be afraid of cars that have some choice upgrades.

If you find one that's had a heat exchanger exhaust wrap X Pipe Evans Waterless coolant fitted etc & you'll have yourself a cracking car that'll be great fun.

This one is a Trade Sale car so check everything give it a thorough test drive make sure everything gets hot & you might snag yourself a bargain.

thanks.

I wonder what the catch is with the last one!

Tempting. I know my m5 is the better drivers car but I could put a lot of money into it and it not be as good as that e55.

Hmm one has hideous gangster style black wheels which like shocking.
One has stupid bonnet vents and very silly alloys

I know that mileage shouldn't put you off, but that last one has over 200k miles. I have no issues buying cars with over 100k but over 200k is a bit much for me.

Take a look over the pond these cars do huge miles which might add some comfort.

Remember it's a huge 5.4ltr V8 3 valve per cylinder and 5 speed auto (very slow changing gear relative to the latest kit which partly explains its slow 0-100mph time of 10.x seconds, put in a quick shifting auto and it will be the bees knees).

biglaugh You can always refurbish the alloys back to the (I personally don't like black wheels) standard silver or any colour you like you don't have to keep them that colour & you do realise the alloys on the last one were an optional extra from new, I personally like the vents as I know how hot these get under the bonnet so for me it's a welcome addition.

Each to their own I was just giving options what one would you recommend then?

Never saw the mileage it was just to give an idea of what mods to look for.

Okay shame as it looks like a good one, given the option you can either go for the first one which looks okay (only viewing will tell) or go for this low mileage FMBSH one.

The first one seems to have some faults so rules it out really. I'll have a look at the other link cheers.

I tested he S211 E55 K fast lovely noise but it did roll a fair bit(compared to a C5 RS6 on coilovers which was totally flat).

The buttons to change gear on the steering wheel are not great IMHO.

Oh mpg is shocking - be prepared for 12mpg average.

When I looked at buying he S211 E55 K flicking through the invoices I had a jaw wide open moment when I saw the Merc Bendz invoice for spark plus replacement c£850!

Actually there were a lot of big numbers I think it averaged c£2k per annum plus tyres

Mine cost me just over £2k per year to run - but was well worth it. If properly sorted they are an awesome car - more a long distance cruiser than A road hero though.
The supercharger whine is something I miss with the E63 I replaced it with.

Could you give examples of servicing costs

How slow are the gear changes? I want it to be quicker than my M5 (which I am sure it will be), but would it be quicker than a supercharged M5, if tuned?

The Merc is 9.7 seconds to 100mph
E60 M5 is 9.2 seconds to 100mph
E39 M5 is 11.2 seconds to 100mph

I doubt even a supercharger e39 M5 would keep up with a stock e55K.
