Evening all,

I'm heading up to the Lake District tomorrow for a few days (me on the bike, other half in the car..) and am wondering if there are any roads around there you would recommend on a bike.

We will be based in Kirby Lonsdale and seeing as we will probably be riding two up on a Triumph Daytona 675r we arent going to be doing huge mileage every day.

Any local knowledge you care to share please?

Thanks!

I live up here so plenty of local knowledge hehe

If you are in Kirkby Lonsdale head towards Sedbergh, then head for Kirkby Stephen, Middleton in Teesdale then down to Alston, stop at hartside cafe then down into Penrith, then A6 to Kendal and the B6254 back to Kirkby Lonsdale.

Quite a long route maybe for 2 up on a 675R

Kirkby Lonsdale>Ingleton>Hawes>Sedbergh>Kirkby Lonsdale is a very good run and sub 100 miles (did it today) you can pick pretty much any a or b (not the A65, it's ok for getting to the next turn) road in that direction and it will be great.

Other good local roads (for scenery) are the A592 alongside Ullswater and over Kirkstone pass, the A591 from Grasmere to Keswick, the A5074 from near Levens to Bowness on Windermere and pretty much anywhere on the far side of Windermere, I'd avoid Hardknott and Wrynose passes on your bike, they are incredibly difficult on a little sportsbike 2 up.

There are loads of great roads in every direction, looks like you are going to have good weather too.

The centre of the Lake District is full of lovely sights but I don't rate the roads that much, especially during the day when the roads are full of slow coaches and dawdlers. However, if you're just tootling with a pillion you can't go far wrong. Grasmere past Thirlmere to St Johns in the Vale is a good little stretch.
