Headstuds a big issue on pre 2011/2012 cars. Invariably need to be sorted as heads lift and oil and water then mix. Rectified on facelift cars. I'd love one but have to have one small car that does more than 30mpg! wink
Wrong

Some prefacelift cars are out of the headbolt issue..

You can buy 2010 cars that are not affected
Good to know. How can you tell the difference?

insane value for money, used amg's are nuts these days. they still look good and still have similar performance to current models
A 7 year old car that's still worth £22k (40% of its original value)? They're nice but I'm afraid I'm not sure I'm with you on the value for money.

Now a 4 year old car with 9k miles on the clock that has depreciated from ?£70k to £26k (also 40%ish), that's value for money (IMHO)! https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
Cars like this though (perhaps V8 RS4 etc too) get down to a certain level and then tail off, perhaps even stopping and maybe even appreciating at some point. Take the RS4, I was looking for one years ago and they never ever dropped below £16k unless Cat D. Even today they are still at that level.

TX.

Edit - just checked and cheapest RS4's are now £17-18k so gone up in last few years.

Pretty sure you can find out from MB using the VIN, they should be able to tell you if the car is affected and whether it was done under warranty.

Had 2 standard 467hp C63's - saloon and estate - and nothing I have ever come across will beat that 6.2 engine - power, torque and above all that NOISE !!!

Makes you want to find any tunnels you can just annoy the 'green brigade' in their Nissan Leaf's etc.....
LOL ^^^ this biggrin
With a simple map it'll do 500, and some remove secondary cats and resonators for a bit more noise - have seen them make 520 or just over - even then it's still way more civilised than your noisier Impreza or other cars, and in comfort and to some extent sport mode won't pop and bang like all the new hot hatches do so you avoid unnecessary embarrassment (if you feel that way) when driving through towns.
Basically, it's a proper jekyll and hyde personality. It's not a car for the track I'd say - my old E92 M3 would beat it hands down for handling, but for straight line speed, torque and noise the Mercedes wins no contest.
Neither are cheap cars ultimately, but I've had mine 7 months now and not had a single fault with it, whereas my M3, which was a year newer and had done 10,000 miles less had 2 faults in the same period.
Mpg wise, despite the horror stories, it's not really any worse than the M3, and actually on motorway journeys I find it more economical than the BMW (and about the same as my old RS!).
Head bolts aside, they seem pretty reliable, and I personally feel the interior is a little above the M3 on the facelift models - earlier models a bit too plasticky inside but outside look more aggressive so there's a trade off depending on what you want.
Would also say the interface to iDrive is better than Comand, and the sound system (HK) not quite as good as the BMW equivalent, but the Merc has far less to configure, and no stop start, which I actually prefer. The soundtrack of the engine is all you need really wink

They aren't far removed from one another in the handling department. The W204 chassis was very good. What gap remains can be accounted for with a few choice parts.

Neither of these cars are track tools anyways, they are heavy road cars that offer some thrills. smile

I agree on the track tools comment - you’d need to strip the unnecessary nonsense out of either but the M3 is clearly the sharper of the two.
Much of that is to do with the weight; the M3 being about 100kg lighter than the C63 and this does show on the road - the C63 feels like a much heavier car and although it will do what you ask of it, the M3 communicates that better in my opinion.
I still prefer the Mercedes overall though smile
