Ive got a Samsung S5 which is now showing its age. Anyone recommend a good phone? I quite like the look of the Huawei P10.

Depends what you want from a phone. I've got the asus zenfone 4 which i chose because it has a fantastic camera and it's plenty fast enough and I'm very impressed. The honor 9 is well rated.

Nokia 8 from carphone warehouse. £400. Top of the line snapdragon 835, 4gb ram, 64gb storage, dual lens camera, near stock android, looks like a good deal to me.

The original Google Pixel XL can be had for around £400.

I'm on the lookout for the same at the same price but want a 5" screen, which is harder to find.

I have no idea what your requirements are but I've got a LG G5SE which is great. Fast, good camera(s). The G6 mentioned above should be better, too.

I bought the one plus five. It's good but fricking massive. Cheaper but best second option IMO was Moto g5s. If you like Samsung another alternative is the A5, I nearly went for it but the Op5 has better specs plus I would have to get an important for dual SIM.

This does look a well specced phone.

I'd say either this or get a Pixel or Pixel XL.

You want something that is going to get a decent amount of OS updates so always best sticking to Google phones these days as Samsung etc seem to dump them after about 1.5 years.

I've just "upgraded" through EE, and the for the first time ever didn't have a new handset, decided to go SIM only and keep my current phone, a Sony Z5 Premium. It's 2 years old but still getting software updates (Oreo is due soon), still as fast as when I bought it - only the battery life is not up to Sony's usual lofty standards, but it does have a 4K screen to power, and still makes it through the day when needed (my X Compact work phone is well into Day 2 now with 35% left).

I think Sony's current range is still about £500, but an XZ Premium or X Performance should be doable for £400.

I've very nearly decided on a Nokia 8 from Amazon for £381, replacing my 64GB OnePlus One.

It's 64GB, with a microsd slot
QHD screen
Regular software updates, Oreo is currently in beta for it.
835 processor and 4GB RAM, less than the Oneplus 5 but same as the Samsung S8

Others on the shortlist are the LG G6, Huawei P10, Oneplus 5t.

I know the Nokia doesn't have the edge to edge screen, but the basics of the phone seem good.

Out of interest why would you choose the Nokia over the OnePlus5(t)?

Cheaper
Micro SD card slot
It might be nothing but the Oneplus data collecting and backdoor access issues have put me off a bit.

Edit: And now I've gone for a Black Friday contract deal on a Samsung S8, £25 upfront and £29 monthly for a black S8 on O2 with 12GB data and unlimited talk/text https://www.mobiles.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s8. My current SIM only on EE is £15 p/m for 6GB data/500 mins/unlimited text.

If I hadn't seen that, I still would have probably gone with the Nokia and kept my EE PAYG card going.
