New series 8th of March on Nat Geo (according to Virgin).

First four cars - MGA, Integrale, Karmann Ghia, 205 GTi

That’s great news. I love Car SOS, I even like the Tim Clown show.

Regarding the new series and specifically the MGA episode that was on More4 the other night.

Surely the lads would have just bought a new body and chassis; pretending to source another salvage body and plate up the chassis was just for T.V? The bare steel body before paint looked new imo.

The reality was that the car was completely built from new/refurbished components, curtesy of the MG Car Club? this is acceptable to DVLA where the car has continuous history and engine/gearbox, steering, axles & suspension remain a per the original design.

So the only original bits would have been the log book and the chassis plate......

To Tim Shaw; "I keep forgetting your name, what is it again?.....it should be Colin, you look like a Colin...."

Shaw" I'm not having this, I'm off..."

He was actually bearable so perhaps he's toned down a bit for the new series.

I saw that last night, Tim wasn't as annoying as usual in the "parts sourcing" bits, but so much was glossed over. As I heard it, keeping the chassis and running gear allowed them to keep the identity, I've no idea whether that's true or not. It's hard to tell from the programme just how bad things were on the chassis - the body looked poor, and I guess the replacement was acid-dipped before it was repaired and refitted, hence it looking new.

The handing back of the car could do with rethinking. Something like opening the garage to find the car all done, or coming across it in the street refer then the stunts they pull.

Do the TV company retain any title to the car afterwards? Must cost a fortune to do some of the cars up!

I don't believe so, the Quattro went up for auction a few months ago, the guy had sadly passed away but appeared to own it

I've always wondered how much that MB Pagoda cost to restore !

Wow. Just watching the Integrale rebuild on 4more now. Got very dusty in the room all of a sudden.

Very sad and particularly cruel timing considering his car is finally how he would have wanted it but he will never see it.

The other thing that is sad is that like so many other cars featured on the show, this car no longer has a valid MOT.

Agreed on that, first time I’ve seen it and have to say was a great episode ( albeit very sad at the same time ).

Silly question, but why does the car no longer have a valid MOT?

As per the previous posters, I watched the show today on the Integrale, very sad story and hats off to Tim and Fuzz for doing a great job on the ‘grale.

If that was my grale as the heirloom it’s possible I’d keep it in my garage in pristine condition

It’s not a new series, it’s only new to Terrestrial TV, it was originally shown last year on National Geographic.

It's only 2 years ago though...

I would understand keeping it as an heirloom. I can't see her wanting to drive it much, kids are too young, not sure about the dad either. Surely you would keep it MOTed and insured though. Would need driving regularly though to keep it in good fettle.

Quick google shows it has no MOT, no insurance, SORNed. Got to be worth a bit of money, should be insured...

Hang on - MOT history shows MOT passes Feb 13, Feb 14, April 15, May 16. Credits say the poor chap passed in 2017. That car looked like it had been off the road some time. And did they not get in an MOT? All a bit weird.

Enjoyable TV though, did get a little misty eyed though...

I thought it was quite a decent episode, again with less faffing-about from Tim, though that might perhaps have been down to the circumstances. If not, I hope it continues that way. I did wonder how they decided the point to stop soda-blasting the shell, and how they'd know whether the bits they left undone were OK underneath. And it seemed a bit strange that they'd take it for blasting but leave the wiring loom in place. Maybe they're really hard to remove on that car.
