For the money the Caysters are slow, you bought the wrong car if you care about straightline acceleration, both an M4 and C63 will rinse a 718 GTS to 100mph. My 718 CS feels slow after my M3 CP but then I expected it to.
Hi,

you got some source data for this ? From what I can see there is hardly anything in it 0-100 and certainly not outside of the tolerances of being able to execute a good launch.

Evo achieved a better 0-60 in a 718S than they did in an M4CP and the difference in 0-100 was 0.1 sec. It was very close to the C63 as well.

So, I don’t see how the 718GTS would fare any worse.

What constitutes a ‘rinsing’ these days?

for 70ish k. Is there a better all round weapon?
Define all round. M3 Competition Pack, M2 Competition, A45 AMG, Mustang V8 etc etc. All are cheaper than £70k, faster or thereabouts and I prefer their engines.

BE57JAM said:
Anyone else think, for the money, these should be faster.
No, they should be cheaper instead.
Good points Twin Fan.

Maybe it is over priced? But what’s its direct competition to drive the price down? And like it or not, the badge is a value add factor.

All round: It doesn’t have 4/5 seats and a rear boot capable of holding 2 large suitcases. Potentially big drawbacks. But then it has a sport specific chassis and is mid enginened (It also has side air intakes - The hall mark of any poster worthy super car).

So, all round is the wrong term. Maybe that’s better suited to the RS6. Maybe instead I ask, name a more capable and dynamic sports car for sub100k...?

Well said. The 718 GTS would rinse a 981 GT4. Maybe the new engine isn’t so bad shoot hahaha

I went to a PH meet at Santa Pod a year or two back. A C63 estate was the fastest thing there barring a modified (stage 2) Audi A3. Ferraris, Astons, Porsche, nothing could touch it. I was amazed at how an "everyday" estate car could be so quick.

Both are the best part of a second quicker than the 718 GTS in the figures I’ve seen, just google 0-100 times for each vehicle. My personal data comes from my own experience of owning an M3 CP and currently a 718 CS, the M3 felt noticeably quicker to me. And yes, I much prefer my 718 smile

It's a great engine if that what you want. Clearly it is for you and what you want... the thread is much easier to have these conversations now some of you guys have calmed down and like Jam here is speaking in terms of what he likes and acknowledging it's not all about top trumps. There's room for us all wink

I'll assume you're talking new cars.

  • 911 base/S/GTS
  • Nissan GT-R
  • Jaguar F-Type R
  • Lotus Exige 410 Sport
etc

and for cheap thrills

  • Mustang V8

You’re a head man to find some common ground with...:

  • 911 base/S/GTS - Dated interiors. (Though admittedly probably better money spent than a new 718)
  • Nissan GT-R - Chav car. Fast and nothing else.
  • Jaguar F-Type R - crap handling.
  • Lotus Exige 410 Sport - shopping trolly level luxury
  • Mustang V8 - certainly has character but, hmm, not sure I would part with my cash for one over other cars out there.

It sounds like you buy cars based on badge and Top Trumps stats on paper. I think we're unlikely to find common ground smile

I’m happy with the stats in this month’s evo. They’ll do for me.

Does anyone with a serious interest in driving (as opposed to bar bragging rights) really care?

Quoting stats is a marketing mans dream buyer ;-)

Ps the GTR is an awesome car to drive, probably one of the best cars to drive bar none at any price range but it is jap and full of plastic so if you mean chav from a plastic point of view you are correct but from a drivers point of view its as good as it gets and much better than a 718 or 981 for that matter. Why do I not still have one, I have more fun in other cars, go figure (it was my last foray into FI jap cars after a 20 year history of modified / imported FI jap cars running much higher HP than a 718) I saw the light and went NA lol

Just wondering if all this top trump stuff is crap why dont you buy a standard up or standard c class if its not so important . All still fun to drive in low power trim.

I can see what you’re getting at but an Up GTI or C63 isn’t the same as, for example Jam saying, for the money there is nothing on the road the road that can keep up with the 718 GTS. He loves the fact that the potential is there and it’s capable is blowing most things into the weeds.
The numbers are important to him.
The Up will have enough power to explore its limits without being at silly licence losing speeds.
We’re all driving enthusiasts but like our driving fun in different ways.

This thread is still going!
May I suggest each person who wants to post any further comments on this thread from now on, post only 1 single more post, and no more, regardless how controversial /annoying / supportive / loving the next response is.

Let's start a new thread along the lines of "the single thing I love the most about my 718 or 981~ no negatives pls as all negatives can be found in thread "718 sound and constant whinging".

Ps I sold my 718 sound played a small but recognizable proportion. But I remember & relish my happy memories of it.
