Anyone moved from Porsche to Lamborghini? Any advice greatly appreciated. Can you reliably do 12k per annum in a Gallardo?

Yes, GT3 to Gallardo. Thoroughly enjoyed the G, but don't think 12000 miles will help the residual value of the Gallardo at all.

They are a great car!!

just be careful if you buy a nearly new one as the early manual cars have a clutch pack which was altered.

Also e gear cars are in the 4th update of software and make sure its had all the updates, the most importnant being a coil pack cover.

Very reliable, you can do the miles but at 12K per year you will take a hit!

Hi guys.

Looking at the possibiltiy of up-grading from TVR to a Gallardo. I have been told they are quite fragile when it comes to the clutch. From what you have just said this is not the case. Also the running costs are huge? Is this true?

The facts of your experiences would help immensley.

Thanks in advance.

23,000km (14,000miles) in 14 months in my e-gear. Insurance wasn't cheap but probably not much different than a 911TT. Servicing isn't particularly expensive as I've only had one service after the free one. My car is e-gear and clutch is still fine. No brake pads yet, but service time is nigh.

I expect that high mileage = high depreciation as others have said. On the other hand, you are getting a new shape so that might help.

Compared to a Porsche (not that I've had one) you'll get a lot more attention in the G. Whether that is good or bad depends on your point of view.

Simon,

Whilst you could use a Lambo every day, and do the mileages you mention, it would take a disproportionate level of depreciation to say a 911 doing the same mileage.

Best advice is to do what I do - use the Porsche for work and keep the Lambo for evenings and weekends!

That's good advice. Trouble is, I find the Gallardo too much fun and have put on big miles JUST driving evenings and weekends!

Just do what Simonspider does with his Murcie. Stick 2 fingers up to running costs and depreciationa and just enjoy the car!

I've gone from 996 to gallardo - no contest do it. The G car feels as well built as a Porker and goes, looks and feels better than any Porker bar the CGT.

I'm finding it hard to resist putting the miles on the bloody thing too - its so much fun to drive, you really struggle knowing it's tucked away in the garage....there are worse problems to have mind you.

I'm going to buy a Cayenne S for daily driver and keep the Lambo for 'best' (which is about 5000 miles a year).

I've had my G. for 2 months and it is fabulous. Like others, I'm currently on track to do 10,000 miles p.a. just with weekend drives and continental trips.

So far so good (2,000 miles) on reliability. It feels very well built indeed. However, I doubt if it quite has the "engineering-in-depth strength" of a GT3 (mine has done 23,000 miles, a lot on track and hasn't had one fault [touches wood rapidly]).

Anyhow, I wouldn't hesitate to move from a 911 to a Gallardo.

Echo all of the above. I've managed 6200 miles of weekend driving in 8 months of ownership. Just had its second service (early as I'm off into Europe on a trip that would take it over the 7,500 service interval) and walked away with a clean bill of health. Not even new pads, which I was amazed at, since Ive done 3 track days. Must not be pushing hard enough

Great car!

Thanks for everyone's advice. I think dealmaker has the best suggestion, just have to consider the economics of running a 997 for work and a Gallardo for best! Could always sell my old turbo and change the missus' X5 for a Xsara Picasso. Then get the kids sweeping chimneys at weekends!

Sorry mate, but I'm going to have to be a ruthless b***ard if I'm going to afford this. Might even vote for Blair!
