ok - heres the rundown on what to look for
1. Rust - examine rear window seal areas and above the boot. It should be fine, but this is where it can be an issue if the car hasn't been well looked after.
2. Check the condition of the exhaust boxes. Budget for a tubi exhaust however (1500 ish) as they make the car sound and respond as it should.
3. Be sure you get the right sat nav disks from the dealer (if it has the becker nav unit) - I spent 4 months chasing around afterwards with them as I got iven the wrong ones. Might be worth bargaining in a more powerful head unit for the stereo too if you can get it.
4. Bargain Hard - the main dealers have a healthy markup and they won't baulk at you making an offer and will usually negotiate favourable.
5. Drive at least 2 if not more cars. They are very individual, having said that an AC should be a vary good example that has been cherished, but I found fairly significant differences in the cars I drove.
6. If you're at all uncertain get an engineers report on the car. Many 3200's have been stacked by over enthusiastic owners not appreciating the legenderay Turbo boost int he wet. If it wasn't a write off then the car could be one thats been regjigged etc. Be v suprised if maranellos had a car like that on their books but pays to be wary no matter who you deal with I think!
7. Check all the switched / electrics before taking delivery. Electrics are often the issue on these cars and chasing down / sorting issues especially those deemed wear and tear so not covered by warranty can be very expensive....
8. Check what warranty you're getting.
9. Make sure you have enough cash in your budget to service the car properly.

11. For more info / experiences advice etc see my profile - I've been running one of the last produced 3200's for nearly 2 years now and found it to be an absolutely brilliant car for pretty much all occasions.
12. Be prepared to take a whacking on the depreciation - if you buy the Assetto for 30k be aware that trade price the day after won't get you much more than 20 back from the same dealer... It's a beautiful car but it aint a cheap short term poroposition.
13. Fuel - expect <15mpg if you have a heavy foot like me. 20+ is possible on a long run with restraint...
14. Check the wheels - I have the standard ones which are beautiful, but v prone to kerbing unfortunately. If you can get a style that doesn't protrude outside the tyre then it might be worth getting them swapped before you buy.

Bought a 2004 Coupe from Marranello last month and can't believe how badly I've been treated.
Can't go into too much detail coz there could be legal action imminent but I would suggest that you make sure that any verbal commitments they make can be backed up in writing.
Let's just say that the spec advertised was incorrect, have been lied to on several occasions and then they tried to lower the part-ex price for my car at the last minute.
Still waiting for major problems to be resolved - might be rejecting the car this week as "unfit for purpose".
