More a rant than anything else !

Our oven died a few days ago, which was great timing just before Xmas...I was panicking but managed to order a new double built-in oven from a well know appliance online delivery company. It was delivered today, unwrapped and the bottom oven glass was smashed as the package has been obviously dropped. There was a big dent on the bottom right corner of the oven which has lead to the glass smashing.. frown

There's no engineers available to fit the new one until January, and the oven I ordered (a Smeg) is out of stock.

They have found a different oven to the one I ordered that is available tomorrow but I have to take the old one out and wire in the new one. The new oven isn't rated as well as the one I ordered, but I'm in between a rock and a hard place what with Christmas Day 2 days away.

The rant bit is - why don't they inspect this stuff BEFORE delivery ? I know it would add time to the process on their side but I feel pretty disappointed that this all happened so close to Xmas which kinda forced me into accepting an oven I really didn't want (otherwise I would have ordered it)

Similar happens to me every year - Xmas incompetence seems to start on Dec 1st

I ordered winter tyres on 15th from MyTyres and they have only delivered 2 - no response to calls or messages "because it's Christmas" NO IT BLOODY WELL ISN'T !

It's a one or two day holiday so why does it balls everything up for a month

Yeah, I would be looking at local stores if that was an option.
Failing that, what eBay. Sort by distance, might be something you can get through Christmas with.

Else only you can judge if the wrong oven for a fortnight till you can change it (or 10years if you keep it) is worth the cost.

Should be a super easy swap job but post here if any complications.

Found a couple of companies that seem to have it in stock. But they are closed today being a sunday.

The replacement they have suggested is a Fisher & Paykel which was the nearest in terms of spec to the one I ordered. Thing is I read lots of reviews about the glass exploding in the oven which is kinda worrying !

Onto ebay next - thanks all for the suggestions smile

How about just firing up the gas BBQ and cooking on that? Leave the hassle surrounding trying to fit a new oven until the new year smile

You're right. I've cancelled the delivery for tomorrow and rebooked the original oven for January.

Turkey on the Webber Smokey Mountain then a lash up of the top oven (bottom heat only, no fan - eek) for roasting alongside a convection microwave for keeping stuff warm !

Oops - forgot about this !

It was fantastic, slightly smokey and still very moist inside. Was worried about doing this as it was quite an important meal, shouldn't have worried as it came out great.

New oven arrives on Sunday, got all my fingers crossed that arrives intact this time ! biggrin

I guess there must be loads nationally that fail on the big day.

My parents are on bottled gas as no mains gas, 2 x 47kg on a change over valve, and every year a week or so before they double check just to be super sure the spare is full not empty!
