A thread for sharing the great vids that crop up on youtube that explain, critique, collate, what have you etc.
Youtube providers are my main go to for film content. So that the links and great vids don't get lost in the 'film I watched' thread.

Rules?Post the link correctly titled and explain why it's a worthwhile watch, maybe why you like the vid/provider.

This one is a decent enough one for showing how the theatrical cut and directors cut alter the narrative. Something which Aliens fiddles with later on. The guy isn't too boring and is a good editor.

Oliver Harper is a youtuber Iove been watching for some time. Came to him via Rossatron. He delves into old films as well as looking at new ones. He has a clear, dry style which took me a while to get used to, but his info on a lot of his retrospective reviews are excellent, and I have learned new things about old films, even about films that I thought I knew it all on. Like STar Wars, this 40 min long intro into the seminal classic which spawned an industry and a genre and a new way of marketing films feels exhaustive, lots of great titbits for anyone into great old films, mostly classics I think, but there are a few in there that are ore debatable, like Flight of the Navigator (another I watched this week)

From the Logan thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

A few film (and some TV) based Youtube channels I've subscribed to recently

CinemaWins - A commentary skip through a film with a points counter for the good bits with "Everything great about..." videos.

FilmJoy - The Movies with Mikey videos. More good things about films, a bit more production to these with the effects, captions and graphics.

Wisecrack - A bit more thinky than the others above, with 'What went wrong", "Deep or dumb", "The philosophy of..." videos.

A few others

CinemaSins - The original channel that CinemaWins was based on to do the opposite of. "Everything wrong with..." videos.

Kermode and Mayo - Weekly film reviews and some interviews.

The Corridor Crew - An effects production studio. They do reaction videos to good and bad VFX, and to movie stunts, along with a few other bits and pieces.

Screen Junkies - The home of Honest Trailers, and if you haven't seen Honest Trailers, what have you been doing? hehe

Carry on adding any channels or videos smile

Best reviewer on the inter web

Smack talk

Last Jedi. Insightful and funny. Explains why it’s a bad film. Worth watching all his reviews notice uses rude words

Smack Talk is very funny...he's been a bit ill recently.

Superman III, the third more goofy supe film, does it have more to it than might be otherwise first thought of? I like it (nostalgia like) because it was on on bank holidays in youth etc, but it does have some pretty darn good ideas, and Reeve's is really good as baddie supe.

Cinemassacre

this guy, I think of him as a video game guy and that's what I have been watching him for, but as his name suggest, he is a film buff to, he is a student of film and a creator, and so, like a lot of my other yters (minty, harper, Georg, Grace) he's an actualy creative who has a history in te biz of doing stuff, which for me, gives weight to pinion, although it's not just that, he is able to get over his feelings on films, at least from this one that popped up on my feed and piqued my interest.

A new series on the Filmjoy channel, "You Should See It". Mikey who does the Movies with Mikey videos on the channel, doing 5 minute videos on why a film is worth watching, without being too spoilery. The first two on there are for The Kid Who Would Be King, which I haven't seen and it got me interested after originally passing it off as the next Harry Potter type thing (I've never seen a HP film either), and Us, which I have seen, and like a lot.

Hyperdrive is a content provider I've been watching a lot of recently.
He does lists that avoid the obvious options and in a method that keeps it pacey and informative. A few list makers are so dry.
I've been introduced to several new films thanks to the channel.

Are these the most interactive of films? Watching this list I realised I really enjoy these sort of films where you are involved in working out what is going on along with the protagonist.

The Nerdwriter https://m.youtube.com/user/Nerdwriter1

A channel that talks about film stuff as well as music, TV, art. I've scanned through and watched a few, one about how Passengers would be a much better film if it was cut into a different order (I think it got posted in the Passengers thread, I think I might have posted it at the time hehe ), digital lens effects in Toy Story 4, scene transitions in Scott Pilgrim, a montage scene in Parasite. Looks like a lot of good film related stuff there.

Very interesting.

They could have turned even darker.

I’m my version is as above but at the end Chris ejects her out of an air lock.

He wakes another and the cycle starts again and we find he’s been doing it for years

Yeah, I liked the idea in the video. Chris Pratt dies at the end, leaving J Law alone to decide whether to wake up someone else to be with. Anything but the ending they went with hehe .
