I was wondering why all the jap cars are lumped together under "jap chat", when shite buckets like saabs, have their own individual forum.>???

surely there must be far more performance car drivers of say Honda than Saab??

I dont post here for this reason....

I check in now and then to see anything exciting, but dont bother to post. if you had manufacturers, then maybe more like myself would.

as it is, it looks like the site doesnt really want us, but added a very wide title just to keep us quiet

I dont see a particular problem with all the Jap cars being lumped together.
Lets face it, quality and longevity of jap cars speaks for itself and dosent need a separate forum for each make and model...we're all brothers here..Banzai!

I quite like the solidarity.
Mind you we aint real big on numbers here really, from a practial point,I'm not sure there are enough contributing/active PH Jap members to warrant pages for each manuf-I do like the idea tho.

I think you kind of hit the nail on the head...

the site see's no need for it, because there are low post counts here...BUT, the reason for that, is the very fact they are lumped as one. just my feelings, and i dont want to pick holes in the site, but it does feel that every car is catered for here, but if its jap, Ahhh well, stick them in one side, they wont mind ...seems to be the answer here.

You just want to see sisters doing it with themselves.

I think it would be good to have a main Jap forum with sub-forums for the main makers (Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda etc).

I am happy for everyone to be together.

We have plenty of websites catering to individual brands.

Having us all together here means you get to find out about other cars. Sometimes you can even help out people who you would not have known about if the section was divided.

I like the jap community to be mixed.

I don't see the point in having seperated forums - hell there is only five-six regular contributers in the mixed forum! There are only 30 Jap owners who regularly contribute to the Gassing Station in total.

I think the reason for that is the forum is too general. A lot of the threads are completely irrelevant unless you own a certain car. If there were some marque-specific forums, along with a main forum, there would be more contributors overall IMHO.

I agree with Gaz - I'd also like to add that I think the community aspect is good - especially as all the other PHers seem to hate us!

Seriously though, its much better this way than having Gaz talking to himself in a Supra forum, Tuttle twiddling his thumbs in the skyline arena....

A MX5 forum might be a bit busier, but only with people asking how to make them more powerful.

The reason I like this forum is because of the diversity.

Previous posters have identified the reasons for the way it's evolved.

A successful forum depends on reaching a critical mass of readers. Some of the other forums mentioned don't actually have that critical mass and tick over without ever really sparking into life. I created them because people requested them.

With the Jap cars, I've always assumed that the dedicated forums elsewhere on the web serve owners really well and that PH couldn't bring anything to the party by dedicating forums to them (similar to MG, Caterham - the PH forums tick over but aren't popular).

The Jap forum here has gained a life of its own in the last year or so and I suspect that may be because it's not attempting to be a lesser replica to dedicated forums elsewhere.

We can change it if required, but I can't see a Scooby / Evo forum working here for example.
