Hi all,

Just bought a manual 53 reg Gallardo at the weekend and would benefit any experiences from other Gallardo owners with troubles etc. I've heard horror stories about clutches lasting 2,000 miles. My car seems to have the following problems, has anyone else had similar?

1) Passenger side window dosen’t auto close (even after following the manual reset procedure). The windows don’t close from the remote key fob, which according to the owners book they should do.

2) 2nd gear is a swine to engage when its cold, but is better (not 100% though) when its warm. I spoke to lamborghini Manchester just, and the guy reckons it could have ‘the early clutch pack in’ which apparently has been a problem. So I said so that’s a warranty issue right? He said ‘its 50/50’. What the f..k does that mean? If there’s an issue I want it replaced at no charge. So I guess we’ll see what happens there. I asked the guy average clutch life….? 7-8,000 miles!! At £4,000 to replace, to me that is ridiculous.

3) Sometime if you pull off with not enough revs you get a clonking noise from the back, but then other times its fine.

4) Finally at the front there seems to be this kind of whining/creaking noise at low speed during turning i.e into junctions etc. The sales guy at the dealers said that this is normal and it’s the 4wd system making the noise. They've had 10 other gallardo's in and they all made that noise.

The car is totally awesome though a real head turner.

Thanks in advance

Andy.

My cars the same as that!

some individuals me included have had early clutch failure at 2.5K miles the unit used now is the one fitted to 05 cars onwards which is a thicker clutch pack.

As my car was bought and suppied by lambo london the factory agreed a goodwill gesture to replace it. It is NOT certain that you would get this done- clutch is NOT a warranty issue and the more miles ou do the less likely it is you will get assistance

Still you paid 97.5 for the car so thats chepaer than if you got it from lambo UK and the difference will pay for a new clutch if indeed lambo will not help!

3) Sometime if you pull off with not enough revs you get a clonking noise from the back, but then other times its fine.

They can be a bit clonky round town but this is not consistent

Its normal

I've not long got my 53 plate manual too. I tested a few and yes they all grind at low speed full lock turns and yes it's the 4wd setup. Don't worry about it. The clutches are affected by the way they are driven. You can get through them apparently, but if you follow this procedure you'll get much longer - more like 10k plus. ALWAYS select neutral at junctions and take your foot completely off the pedal. Hold on the brake and select first and go. NEVER ride with your foot resting on the pedal either. Can't help about the window problem I'm afraid.

Hi Andy

Mine is a 04 but have some of the problems you mention

Passenger window doesn't auto close

2nd gear is difficult at times but better when warm

Cant say i have had the noise from the rear

I had the knocking at the front investigated at Lamborghini London on the 1st service and they diagnosed something to with the suspension, they apparently adjusted something and now it all seems fine. They mentioned other cars had suffered with similar noises?

Hope you enjoy your car!!

Hi - the passenger window does not have an auto close for some reason - Italian eccentricity apparently, so don't worry 'they all do that Sir'.

I've experienced the same notchy gears when cold - but once warm, all's fine.

I think independent specialists are doing them for around 2.5k, but that may be just the centre plate. When I was last at my local specialists they were replacing a clutch on a Lambo that had only done 800 miles!! Must have been a manufacturing fault or the result of serious abuse surely??
