Hi all,

Having sold my 93, 964 cab over a year ago and being stuck with a tt for to long I want to by another 964 but this time I want the coupe 2. I like the idea of the triptronic as one is getting old and I do some times just like to potter about in d. Also I believe they don’t have the dual mass problems but are the slower than the man or the cab.

What do I pay for one now. I sold mine for 15k with the help of Joel at rsj who I bought it from but I don’t want to pay that much for one now as having lived with one before I don’t think that with all their faults they are worth this money now I could be wrong. I would ask Joel again but I think he only has the 993 and up.

I have seen a couple around for the 11k mark, 911virgin having two at the moment. (Not sure I want to deal with them though) Bug thing and all that.

As I live in Spain I have to import the car and it costs just to much to import from the motherland to Spain. Its a paperwork nightmare I want to bring one from the uk lhd with air con and air bags if poss but must be no older than H 90- 91.

If you guys know of any good ones let me know. And you thoughts on how much one should pay for one. I don’t believe there is a good market for them any more as it took six months to sell my last one I think you must have to really like them.

So after all that, what should I be looking to pay?

Doubt you will get airbags - might need to go to 92, 93. As for values 11K and up depending upon condition, service history, miles, etc. Budget to pay £15K for a very nice one and anything you save can go towards any work required.

Would not worry to much about the DMF as most will have been fixed by now.

Best place to look is Porsche Post and 911 and Porsche World, they always have a good selection available failing that there are a few UK dealers who import cars and have a few LHD available like Adrian Crawford.

Regards Andy

In a similar position myself -

I'm looking at slightly older LHD C2/C4 non tip - and am budgeting around the £11k mark - I saw the two on 911virgin but likewise have reservations about the 'bug price' doesn't this just make it a trade sale?

Saw an absolute nail of a C2 yesterday for 10k (sounded rough, smoked, dodgy outfit etc. )

On the flip side I saw and a nice C4 from a guy here, but he may no longer be selling.

Couple have been through ebay recently at £12k and there are another couple on autotrader for £11k-£13k - so yeah I'd say your initial punt was about right.

If you're in Spain, and you want LHD, why would you buy from the UK??

You'll find loads of really well looked after LHD 964s in Germany - there's usually a bundle at www.mobile.de

thanks for the info. I know the site, the problem is with the paper work as i would have to pay import duty, vat and 12% of the value to register the car in Spain. If i bring in a uk plated car I can use it on the uk plate for six months then if i need to i can do a private import and only pay the 12% reg fees. or just keep it on a uk plate.

I live in Spain and bought a car in Germany last year. You only have to pay 12% tax.. But the 12% applies to estimated car value and in a car more than 10 years old that's almost zero! I had a quick look and (to the Taxes here in Spain) a 964 was worth €84.100 when new; then if it's more than 12 years old the value they'll take is 10% of that (€8410) and then you have pay 12% of this: €1009.2
If you want to mail me I can send you the table I got with all the cars estimated values and the discount factor according to the age. This way you can run the maths yourself.
You have to pay some more fees like MoT and circulation stamp but shouldn't be too expensive. If you're affiliated to the RACC here they'll do all the paperwork for you as well.

I went trought this two years ago when i bought a 964 cab from rsj and your right in what you are saying but As i am english but with residence in both uk and spain i can do a personal import on a uk car because i can register it to my uk address wait six months and register it here. when i buy in Germany i have to trade import it and still have to pay vat. I am member of the racc but when you work out all the costs it is cheaper to import from the uk as there is not an lot of difference in the price to pay for the car. Also I dont speak or read german just spanish and english.

I would be interested to find out from you who did you transfer as when i had my 93 my 964 the cost to register it from a uk plate was 2500 euros

It is Scottster's and is 'known' on here, including to me (I've driven it). He is after a Ferrari 355 in the next few months and has tentatively put it up for sale to the right person (ie a PHer would be nice!) at the right price (12k). He's not desperate to sell as it is so good.

BergS2 has seen it and can probably verify that it is a very nice example for the money.

The answer is pretty much yes, BUT you've still got far more come back than a private sale

Mustard,

How do you work that out as if you buy the car as seen that means no come backs. and that is what the bug price is.

I look at it this way if they sell the car with no warranty for example 11k or with warranty for 13k and the warranty only lasts for 3 months.

you can buy a good warranty for around 650 quid for the year. If you have my luck things always go wrong when ther warranty runs out even if its 3 months or three years,

Shame this as they do have a 964 that i realy like at the moment. the black 964 every day one is more tempted to view it.

under the sale of goods act it still has to be fit for the purpose it was bought, so if the engine goes pop after you've had it a week then you would have legal recourse. The problem would have to be pretty major though and the vehicles age and mileage would be taken into consideration in terms of what could reasonably be expected

Hence why most franchised dealers will not sell 'trade p/x's' direct to the general public

The only 'cop out' is to say the vehicle is sold 'for spares or repair'

I'm pretty sure I'm correct in saying bar it being stolen or outstanding finance you've got absolutely no come back what so ever and then probably the only way may be to sue (if they've got any money )

it's sweet indeed, but i've seen a couple of absolute peaches for relatively low cost too in the last few days... (alongside one absolute howler...)

PS: did you see WWAV Rapp got the No 1 DM agency over Draft & Proximity - small world indeed!

Do you script any TV Dom?

Tim.

Hi Tim,

LOL, yes WWAV is doing quite well at the moment. We are nibbling at the proverbial ankles. Yes, I have scripted TV and cinema (including a 5 min Ant and Dec promo for CITV!) but mainly do DM print at the moment.

All the best,
Dom
