3200 re sale value ? How Cheap?
Discussion
Hi Guys , as a Cerby owner im all too familier with amazingly poor re sale values, but im intrigued as to why the 3200 suffers as bad as it does. Im not hugeley familier with maz build quality or reliability,
they appear to be made from metal ,which is new for me. they look solidly built. sound great, are fast so can you guys give me some advice, as iv always wanted one and it seems a perfect compromise from a Cerb to something a little more comfy yet still fast?

I think they suffer because recent (80's 90's) Maseratis have had poor residuals and it takes a long time to turn that around even with a better product. Also lots of problems when new (mainly software which was usually upgraded through "service campaigns" has given an impression of unreliability which is unjustified for well sorted used cars.
Don't complain though - it makes them the best value secondhand prestige car around in my book. What else can you get for 25K with the same performance, presence and useability? But I am biased...

>is it the manual which are more desired, whats their tiptronic box like?<
If your going for a 3200, the options are either manual or automatic.
The 4200 (a bit more expensive) has gearbox options of manual or CambioCorsa (Tiptronic).
Since i don'town one can't give u mucho feedback on this...

I think more auto's were sold from new and some dealers say that manuals are less desirable and slightly cheaper (although I can't say I noticed when I was looking).
I've got a manual because I thought an auto would reduce the driving involvement too much (my previous car was an auto and I got bored). I never tested an auto so I can't coment much more than that. The manual does take some getting used to, very light throttle, turbos and a notchy change, but I think worth it in the long run.

as others have said the 3200 suffered due to Maseratis poor reputation for building the biturbo in the 80s.
The 3200 represents a very good bang for the buck. That said service costs are going to be higher than a porker, probably lower than most cerbys I'm aware of though!
They're not cheap to fix if they go wrong, and parts are expensive and can take a while to source if you are unlucky. (Same with any low volume car really) So you ahve to remember this - but they are a bella machina.
See my profile for running costs, ownership info over the last 2 years....

I was honestly expecting to have a list of big issues with the 3200,Im genuinly supprised they re sell so cheaply just because of production issues in the 80's early 90's.
Anyway thats great for me.
I would love a black one 2000 or 99 but they seem very hard to come by.
Running costs,,lol Its cost me around 4 to 5k a year to keep the Cerby in tip top condition. So anything cheaper is great,il put it towards a tubi.
Anyone got one for sale? Black ? 21K or around that?

To be fair you'll need to pay better money than 20k to get a car that won't need immediate attention somewhere.
Do get it fully checked out by a specialist before buying and get a detailed report. On my well looked after 2002 car I paid over 3.5k including the warranty to keep the car on the road this year (tyres, cracked manifolds, tubi, discs, pads etc). Without the warranty it would have been 8k at main dealer prices - and thats on a cosmetically perfect low mileage car - imagine what horrors lurk underneath a £20k 60k mile car thats been parked in the rain for 2 years.
Not saying there ain't bargains - but although the cars are essentially sound enginewise, any little niggle is gonna cost you heavily - I've never had a bill <1000 quid any time it's been near a mechanic...

I would certainly look for a 2001 model as most of the earlier problems were sorted by then.
As far as rust mine recently had a tidy up on the boot top corner by window and along the bottom edge. Other than that stone chips.
Mine is a 2001 and I have had the occasional error light come on after rain but after restarting the car it goes (spurious).
Its due for the 3yr/18500 service in August at an independent (£1250+vat)just have to wait and see what else they find. I've got a budget of £2500 + warranty, fingers crossed.
Great car, fun to drive with 370hp , love the twitchy rear end.
No regrets yet!!!!!!
