Looking through some old TVR stuff last night I found a brochure for the TVR Griffith (1992 I think) that states the engine as a 4.2litre AJP V8!

Did any AJP Griffs ever get built? and if not, why not?!

The AJP was originally developed for the griff and
there is one in existance that belonged to john ravenscroft but it's thought that it was just too mad for the griff.

The griff is pretty mad with 300 bhp from the 5 litre
never mind 350 genuine horses.

It really needed more lenght and width in the wheel base - hence the cerbera.

Oh Crikey, now I want one

Can't be THAT hard to build can it?
All I need is a tired old Griff, a 4.5 AJP lump + gearbox, uprated suspension and brakes, and for less than £20k I'd have a beast fast enough to make even the Tuscan S boys wince.

should be easy enough IF you can source and engine, they're very hard to come by (and expensive)

You'd be better off with one of those new Yank LS1 V8's wouldn't you? Lighter and smaller than the Rover, 5.7Ltrs and 400Bhp before you start tuning it. Plus it take the T56 (6 spd) box, anyone done this yet?

Don't forget to change the diff, get those custom drive shafts and CV joints so that the transmission doesn't snap. Then start stiffening the chassis so that doesn't start bending. You will also need to uprate the cooling system, fuel system and work out how to get col air to it. Then their is the wiring loom to mod and the instrumentation to change. Think I will rebuild the whole car and you are not far off it.

I speak from 520 experience where the latest Power Hike courtesy of the tiple throttle has wrecked the rear suspension and transmission is about 8 weeks... Now rebuilt but with upgraded and custom parts. I won't bore you with the costs but I am now walking round with less body parts than I started with...

Aha! I knew there had to be a catch.
On second thoughts, if theres a new tamora based race series on the horizon there might just be one or two racing Tuscans coming up for sale in the forseeable....

In the mean time, gotta get some plugs for my 400.
Its got NGK B7ECS in at the moment. Should I replace like for like or is there something better? (I've replaced the leads with 8mm Magnecores already)
Opinions please anyone?

0-100 8.9 seconds with wheel spin all the way despite the traction control doing its best to limit it to 8%. Back wheels spin up by 15 mph on each gear change before the TC intervenes in 0.1 second.
30-60 in gear 1.7 seconds.

A set of slicks should get it down to high 7's or low 8's as I should be able to get all the power down rather than have the TC reduce it...

Disn't say it was not worth doing just expensive...

Steve,

Surely you've got a win win situation. You spend money the car to increase power and reduce driver weight by selling body parts at the same time.

Taken to extremes you might be able to reduce the drag factor by remodelling the bodywork as the passenger compartment need only be big enough for your head. Vehicle control might get a little more complex though, how about an auto box

Is that just the work, or does it include the engine + box?

It's not a catch just a way of life. The more you change, the more you spend. The more you spend, the more you have to change.

It is also quite funny that the many of the AJP boys are thinking of how to get back to the reliable Rover unit and the some Rover boys are looking at dropping an AJP in a Griff...

As for spark plugs? Get the NGKs.
