Not really been into the Britcar scene much, but noticed quite a few Clios in the Champ. Are the majority of these ex clio cup ones/imports or self built ones

As far as I know there are none in Britcar, put it this way, never noticed any last time we raced

Do you mean EERC production S1 ?? or Gold Arts

the ones in prodction started life as Clio cup cars, no idea what spec they are to now.. you would need to ask somebody that runns one (Think Automotive do/used to)

Isn't the one Griffin Motorsport run/ran quite successfully an ex-Rob Collard BTC Production spec car?

You need to speak to Julian Griffin about these cars.

Link can be found through Renault Sport web site.

Don't be fooled by the MST Timing site regarding the Brands GP round. The listed Clio Cup of Griffin/Simmonds that qualified in 5th position was actually the ex VLR 307 BTCC Car! a late runner in the production class you see The Clio can be found further down the order.

Clio Cup cars are eligible for Production S1 in class C. To build your own from scratch would be a waste of money but modify a existing car is sound option. They can run very competitively in that class against the Mazda RX8's (although they are starting to spend some money on them now so that will change things) and some of the less spec'd up Civic Type R's and Ford Focus's.

The only mod you need to make from a standard Cup spec car to an S1 spec is a dry break fuel filler. Otherwise its a ready to go car but with a limited tuning potential in relation to the Japanese cars. However, you could easily make an S1 spec Clio quicker and more predicable than a Cup car due the "vague rules" of S1.
