Button to Ferrari?
Discussion
Can't see Schuey staying at Ferrari much longer. He's becoming more and more outspoken about F's lack of competitiveness.
Ferrari will come back, maybe next season (more likely the following one). But Schuey doesn't have the long-game patience anymore, why should he?
So I expect Schuey not to be driving for Ferarri next year ("retiring to spend more time with his family" and Rubens will take over the number 1 seat at Ferrari with Jenson slotting into the role that Eddie J and then Rubens have played alongside Schuey.

Do you mean Jenson playing #2 to Rubens? Can't see it myself, surely if those two were at Ferrari together JB would have the better chance of the championship?
I reckon JB going to Ferrari to be No 2 to Rubens would be a win-win-win.
1st win: Ferrari get the benefit of continuity and Rubens over the past few years has not been much off Shuey's pace, with some suspicion that the race day package is optimized for Schuey. Looking at the grid Ferrari doesn't have a better option than Rubens and Jenson for immediate, constructors' championship winning competitiveness unless they could tempt either Raikkonen or Alonso as No 1 which seems unlikely and would surely mean Rubens as No 2 would go
2nd win: Rubens would be highly motivated by a two year No.1 Ferrari driver contract and no one doubts he's one of the best drivers and not that far off the pace of Schuey on many occasions recently - he's 33 now so has probably only a couple of seasons left to get that drivers championship he's always had the potential to claim
3rd win: Jenson would look at the prospect of the No 2 Ferrari seat pragmatically: great team, a couple of years to get into the Ferrari infrastructure then take over from Rubens when he leaves after the 2006/7 season. This gives him a run at the championship aged 26 - still in his prime.

Nope. Ferrari remains with the current drivers for next year. Button is forced contractually to go to Williams, where he replaces Suaber bound Heidfeld, who replaces pensioned off Villeneuve and partners Massa.
Schumacher will retire at the end of the 2006 season, being replaced (on a 3 year deal) by Alonso. Barrichello may stay on for another year with Massa taking a year as test driver, although it is also possible that Massa may be promoted to number 2 driver from the off. Raikkonen and Button are just smokescreens...
Nicolas Todt takes up a permanent role in the Ferrari team - a preulde to him being groomed for team principal in 5 years' time.

On the other hand, one can believe that it would be easier to prise Alonso loose from Renault. With Briatore pulling the strings, it would be only a question of money (to him).

This is not the case unless Williams have a Major Engine package, and NOT a second user package al-a Jordon with Toyota - the only chance of this happening is them having a manufacturers engine which is not supplied to another team, i.e even a Cosworth package would not be enough as they are not now owned by Ford.
Barricello will definatly go after serving out his 2006 season, probably retiring, Alonso will not go to Ferrari unless as rumoured in the press that the now CEO at Renault decides to sell the team, as he is definatly not a motorsport fan - how many times have we seen this in Ford when CEO's change and so do there sporting interests, Raikkonen is more than set to stay with McLaren as is Montoya, expect Jenson after all is said and done to stay at BAR - he would be stupid to go to the rumoured second grade Honda engine team to be - Williams.

This will be the same Todt jnr who was being castigated at Magny Cours by Keke Rosberg for effectively buggering up his boy Nico's and team mate (Premat?) race in GP2 by leaving them out during a safety car period when every else pitted. Obviously needs a Ross Brawn around...
Can I just throw the names of Rosberg jnr, Piquet jnr and Hamilton into the equation? The first two have got be in line for F1 seats soon and hasn't young Lewis got a deal with McLaren?

You have all forgotten a young Italian Character, who is just a bit good.
It has been rumoured that BE, MM and LDM want him in F1 PDQ.
Next?
Last I knew, the Doctor had said he was more likely to go rallying than circuit racing if he were to go to 4 wheels at all. Exciting as it would be, I fear it's little more than a Bernie PR exercise.
Still, be great to see though...
I don't think he'd pass up the chance to become the greatest powered racer of all time. He has the ability, I think rallying is a smoke screen.
He is already the best ever on two wheels, he just needs to teach these four-wheeled geriatrics who's best. I just hope he does it before the smug Kraut runs for the hills. And in the same car.
