Apparently is is owned by a Russian Billionaire, and has been overflown by a couple of military aircraft, one British, one American which are showing up on the radar apps, so making no attempt to hide it.

'Oligarch' wasn't on the careers list when I was at school.

Oligarchs always seem to be Russian.

And mostly dead these days. They seem to fall ill/commit suicide a lot, there's not many of them left.
Even after apologising to Putin, their health seems to suffer.

Wait to see what happens to them all when putin goes (eventually)

I’m sure they all know the precarious nature of their position and are enjoying it while they can.

I'm not a fan of Sailng Yacht A, I think it's ugly. But I assume the owner likes it and my opinion is certainly irrelevant.

However, Black Pearl is gorgeous, IMVHO.

I just don’t really see the point of a sailing boat that large. It’s so slow and you’re always keeling over. Fine if you’re on something small, but when you have to cross a 30m wide state room trying to find stuff to grab hold of, it must get quite wearing.

Give me a motor yacht with a bunch of racing dinghies or a j-class hooked on the side over that any day.

Did you now that the longer the waterline the faster the boat (excluding planing hulls) as long as you have the power - the horrible dynarig does develop a lot of power. Black Pearl is capable of 30 knots, that at least as fast as or maybe faster than many superyachts, eg Octopus is flat out at 19knots despite having nearly 20,000hp

I'm pretty sure they try and sail them quite level

30kts is impressive. Even so, I do not think that would be enjoyable to be on or in unless moored in a bay.

From watching various vlogs from superyacht crew, it looks like most owners are not on board when the boat covers any distance.

I think that basically they are much more about shouting "fk off" at poorer people than they are about sailing.

I'm with you, a J-class is much more interesting but not as good for dinner parties etc

One good aspect is that fuel consumption seems to be absolutely minimal. It says on google that it’ll cross the Atlantic with 20l of fuel due to a bunch of solar and wind powered generators. Pretty cool.

Tbh I would love to go on it but it’s not my idea of fun.

Black Pearl's manager is on PH - to be found on the Superyacht thread - ask him for a go smile If he says yes, I'll ask to tag along wink
