Have searched previous threads but couldn't find much info. What tyres have you found best in terms of performance, wear and cost?

I Use Michelin Pilots and find them Very Impressive.
Saying that. The Front Tyres had 4mm on them when supplied and I replaced the tyres with the same Brand "Michelin"
What a difference the extra 3mm (7mm tread) makes on the handling of the car!

Are you serious? Taller tread blocks move around more, and generally make any car more squirmish. When racing in a "road tyre" series, many teams get their tryes shaved to make the tyre react more positively to steering input, etc.

Or does "What a difference" mean "Gosh it's all over the place"?

Yes = Serious.

On a track this is different.

Nothing to be confused about there mate .
The response on the front wheels feel better with the extra tread especially with the Rain and combined power delivery of the 3200 gtm. (Maybe this is just me testing new tyres !) But there was renewed confidence.

Re : Gosh what a difference - Curious to find out what Maserati you drive ?
Noted your comments on tyres but this is my Personal experience re : 3200 gt and the tyres I use which are not on a race track "road tyre series"

Wonder how you feel about tyre tread and performance on your experiences with the maserati 3200 gtm throughtout 9 months of motoring in the UK's Weather both cold and warm ? Wet and Dry ?

And what the hell has racing in a road tyre series got to do with day to day motoring on uk / european roads.
Shaving tyres for the track is one thing ..
But for the roads , you are having a laugh mate
Tyres for the track are on thing, tyres for the road is another.

I have more confidence in the feeling of the Chassis with New Tyre Tread in relation to handling IMO.

Ahhh tyres.

In my experience :

Pirellio P Zero Rossos - phenomenal grip, very sticky pretty good in the wet, wear very fast. (Set of rears around 8k miles).

Michelin Pilot Sport - excellent - not as much outright grip as Pirellis, but a good comromise and better in the wet and seemingly harder wearing.

Was just having this conversation with a friend about the Pilot.
They are hard wearing tyres and I agree that the grip in the wet is good.

He has just bought Yokohama's - Has anyone experienced these on the 3200 ? The Tyre is very soft compared to the Pilots.
looks like a good Dry road Tyre !

I am surprised, but as you are the one in the seat, thanks for the confirmation. From this, I would conclude that the taller tread blocks make it better behaved on the road due to road being more uneven than circuits, so they are more compliant with the rough surface.

Just a Maserati Neuron. It's a concept car in my brain

Chill, dude, I only asked a question based on your experience, which you have kindly answered. I thank you.

I was simply giving information on the extremes of treaded tyre behaviour and how people optimise it. There was no mention of road or track in your post, so I chose to offer a bit of broader experience. Sorry if you didn't appreciate it.

Incidentally, have you taken yours on any trackdays? Any thoughts as to the change in behaviour? Would the 3200 be a good occasional trackday car?

Glad that's cleared up, then. I look forward to confirming it when I get my 3200 as well

Hi Jacobyte

Thanks for your comments.
Basically I felt the 3200 handles better with 3 mm more tread ref : Pilots on the Front End.
Just my opinion.

re : Track Day.

Yes it has been on track = Evo Edition : April 2005 Pages from 109 through to 130.
Testing was on the Beford Autodrome West Circuit.
Wet Testing included.
Even Jethro Bovingdon (evo road test editor ) found it hard to control without ASR !

While I appreciate track is different , on the road in the wet you need all the grip you can get.
The 3200 gt is tail happy , if you dont believe me ask the lads on here for their experiences (some good , some not so good)
Once the Turbo kicks in and without asr for example you need the Bible for sure !
I have found that the difference in 3mm extra to be :
a = more confidence in the tread.
b = actually more grip which resulted in better control and also more confidence.

Either way the car felt "more planted"
Its a great car but the slightest difference in the tyre set up and suspension and you will know it on the road.

While on a track I agree its different, on the road , I felt the extra tread felt more responsive and the front end was more "planted"

P.S Re : My 3200 Gt will be up for sale (sadly) next month as I need to make room for my First Horse (even though its in Black ) !!!
Email for info even if you are looking at other cars.
Always glad to help out Jacobyte.

Hope this is of help ?
kind regards
Pete
