Depressing if predictable article on the BBC news last night which raved on and on about how much she was now worth as a marketable commodity.
The fact is it's true, but looking at her and hearing what she says, she seems to have good people around her who she can trust. Emma is a very intelligent young lady and despite her charm and infectious smile I don't think she'll suffer fools gladly. She needs to keep those who just want to "Jump on the Raducanu money-train" in order to just make an income in any ruthless way possible, because they will be out there...

I'm waiting for the Hollywood movie for her rise to stardom.
They should frame the final like the ending of the original Karate Kid film.
Hostile opponent, then last minute injury and threat of forfeit.
Substitute the crane kick for the match winning ace all with an exaggerated limp and all her dreams come true.
I'd watch it
I did, great match; with all the drama you describe. They should frame the final like the ending of the original Karate Kid film.

A well known female tennis player, with good looks, could earn in the hundreds of millions over a career from commercial endorsements alone.
So I think it is relevant to point out just how much she will likely be able to earn now she is a grand slam champion. We might prefer it to all be about love of the game but there is serious money in women's tennis and so if the youngsters find that out they may be more likely to take up the sport.

Didn't they say that pretty much all the top 10 earning female sportswomen in the world were all tennis players? So I think it is relevant to point out just how much she will likely be able to earn now she is a grand slam champion. I so want to see her compete for many years at the top of women's tennis, but just look how wonderful she looks during her legthened stay in Manhatten, attending Met Gala 2021.. Hasn't seen her family and friends since before going to the US Open!
And she has the British awaiting her arrival home - Sure to be quite a reception..! The World is her Oyster...

I only just found this thread, but that was the best sporting event I have watched this year! So thanks to Amazon Prime and C4 for putting a deal together.
And it was so refeshing to see a match without ages spent deciding which balls to use, bouncing them for ages before serving or grunting every time they were going to hit the ball!
I was a bit worried for Emma after her "Wobble at Wimbledon" but it didn't seem to trouble her.
The crowd was very partisan, especially given that Emma was born in Toronto so was probably as "Canadian" as Leylah, and Fernandez isn't exactly going to be a surname with generations of history in Canada.
Then when the medical time-out was called I went right off Leylah with her moaning - I'm glad she got beaten!
I'd be a fan of Emma whatever country she chose to play for but choosing to be a Brit just makes it more special. I just hope she can avoid injury and keep playing like that for many years to come. So much better to watch than the Williams bruiser!
And the composed way she coped with the live interview was just amazing, especially given her age and that it was her first Grand Slam win.
She seems to have the talent to dominate the Ladies game for years, and I hope she does - a superstar in the making and surely a favourite for SPOTY.

Superb talent and 'pretty' but not unforgettably stunning. But a lot of old men like Tennis and she will cash in from their attention

Fair enough, but don’t kid yourself that she’s any better than any of the current top 10.
I think those expecting multiple GS wins in the next year or so might be somewhat disappointed.
We shall see.
Thats the good thing about the womens game you dont seem to have anyone that truely dominates. Yes you still have Serena but she is at the end of her career, but its seems everyone can beat everyone. I think those expecting multiple GS wins in the next year or so might be somewhat disappointed.

The mens game just seems to be pick a name out of 3 to win the grand slam.

Osaka looked like she might be the new dominant force in the women's game having already won 4 x Slams, which other than S.Williams, is more than anyone else since Sharapova and Henin......but with her current battles of the mind with regard press duties etc., who knows whether she'll win any more?
Otherwise, as you say, it seems to be pick anyone from the top 30 or so who could win each Slam.

There have been a number of young players that have won a GS but not backed it up with multiple wins or who have suffered injury problems so you could be right. However to me the most important thing a tennis player needs is mental strength. Nadal and Djokovic are the best examples. Even when they play badly or worse than their opponents they find a way to win and can withstand huge mental pressure. What impressed me most about Emma is that she seems to have the same mental strength. Against Fernandez and Sakkari she saved numerous break points, even coming back from 0-40 on several occasions. If she can stay that strong mentally then the sky is the limit.I think those expecting multiple GS wins in the next year or so might be somewhat disappointed.

Emma's finally back home with her family in London.. What an incredible 7 weeks she's had since she last saw them.. Left as an A-Level student and returns as Ladies US Open Champion 2021.. Quite a while before the Australian Open though guess she'll participate in a few tournaments before then....! Welcome home Emma
