That shape is growing on me now far more than in period. Would probably prefer the m5 with the glorious throwing star allows.

My father in law had a 525d of this shape back in the day. Last 3 letters were FAK. Mrs SGI had a e36 m3 at the same time and her letters were OUF.
How we used to laugh when they were parked side by side.
Thank god the internet came along……

Actually, my favourite era of BMW shapes, both inside & out; super-purposeful - and with a lovely sound.

Not as Italian-tiny as their tall, narrow antecedents and not as bloated as now.

Utter porn for me.

I'd have this in my dream garage along with a 6 series from the same decade - reminds me of that video on YouTube of Chris Harris walking around the hangar full of Alpinas.

The Alpina is very nice, but its down 80 bhp on the M5, just cant see it as worth anywhere near the same personally.

It just isn't a 25 grand car, sellers are still hanging onto the bubble type pricing, see it being worth half that on a good day, to someone who wants one, and doesnt want an M5.

Alpina - I was expecting to see an automatic with the funny wheel buttons but, no, it's a manual. Lovely.
I think this is cooler than the equivalent M5 and definitely a good, left-field choice

Sad, because this is definitive proof that BMW 'can' make good looking cars, but they choose not to for some reason I can't fathom.

Yes, maybe with the Alpina Blue and Green stitch could be nice!

What a handsome old beast, I always thought this time for BMWs and Alpinas was great . Id love this to join my e36, e39 and e46!

There's a chap on here called McGee_22 who appears to have a fetish for Alpinas - think he has the estate version.

I wonder with cars like this, what happens when, say, a spring snaps or a shock starts leaking. Can you really get the right replacement parts?
That. Surely those Bilsteins made to Alpina spec have been unavailable for at least a decade.
You can probably something else from e34 but magic will be lost.

Looks lovely but the price is challenging and too slow for a classic daily.

I do sometimes regret not following up on a green one of these that was for sale a few years ago. Wasn't sure it would have been up to being run as an only car. Bought an E39 M5 a few months later, would still like to try an Alpina at some point.

First thing I noticed too.
Lovely car but should be advertised after the steering wheel had been attended to.

After 90k miles won't they be passed their best anyway so I don't think the car will drive as intended unless it has been refreshed.

Also from memory, isn't the badge on the front grille in the wrong place? Possible previous front end shunt? smile

Alpina's dampers are made by Sachs. Yes, you can get replacements.

Iconic car I'd have in a heartbeat over an m5.
In fact that's why I bought the e39 based B10 3.3 manual (one of the few RHD/ UK unicorns) I loved for 6yrs , over the e39 M5s I'd tried: it was a more-utile, better-riding, more-finessed-handling (more feedback for one, and the most informative, beautiful sensation/feedback on turn-in at any speed) - a more polished thing - even if slower on paper.

I have zero regrets about that choice, to this day.

... I think I am vitamin B10 deficient right now ...

Very nice. Did they do an estate version?
They do a 4.6 V8 version. Isn’t the owner on here? Might be the only RHD version I think (or could be a turbo version).
Sure he posts in the fast estates thread.
There were 5 different engined E34 Alpina cars; 3.0, 3.5, 3.5 BiTurbo, 4.0 and 4.6

There were no factory estate versions of the M30 straight six engine cars, the B10 3.5 and the B10 BiTurbo, although some BiTurbo estates have been made by owners or garages, 3 possibly 4, worldwide.

The B10 3.0 AllRad was a 4x4 based on the 192bhp 525ix but now with 231bhp - there were 64 lhd saloons, 70 lhd estates, 2 rhd saloons and 1 rhd estate (which was only uncovered/discovered about 18 months ago).

The B10 4.0 was based on the 540i but with output up from 286bhp and 295 lbft to 315bhp and 305 lbft - there were 45 lhd saloons, 4 lhd estates, and 2 rhd automatic saloons - no rhd estates were made. One of the two rhd saloons was advertised for sale in March this year for £48,995.

The B10 4.6 was based on the 540i but had B10 BiTurbo suspension and brakes, and an all new engine block of 4.6 litres giving 340 bhp and 355 lbft. The engine went on to be redesigned for the E39 4.4 540i, Alpina 4.6 and 4.8 B10 V8 and V8S cars as well as the E53 4.6is X5. There were 26 lhd E34 B10 4.6 saloons, 18 lhd estates, no rhd saloons and one rhd estate - it was the answer to what to buy if you wanted an E34 M5 Touring but wanted rhd but at £65,000 in 1995 (£10,000 more than an M5 Touring) it was so expensive only one UK owner ordered one. He sold it to me ten years ago when the only other interest he'd received for the car was from people wanting to put the engine into an E30.

Some excellent Alpina info there McGee!

Your car is absolutely stunning by the way, the closest I got to something like that was my 1994 540i Touring, which I loved. I would love a proper Alpina someday.

I am definitely getting old.

This (and the M5 linked) excites me far more than the current version of the M5.

Ultimate versions of what, to me anyway, is one of the handsome cars BMW ever produced.
