Silverstone 24hr - whats the plan??

Hi guy's,

Well, I've looked at the Silverstone website, the EERC website and good old PH - but.........

I'm struggeling to find info on the 24hr.

I think from the S'Stone info the tickets are about £20, but what's the plans for any camping/entertainment etc. Is there any camping inside the ciruit (as 1000km last saturday), or do we need to find alternative campsites locally??

Any info greatfully received.

As its silverstone I'd expect there to be lots of fences and locked gates. the grandstands will all be closed and the conssessions will be open for about 10 minutes if you are lucky..

I could however be surprised and the circuit might actually do somthing for the spectators, but it would be a first imho

Everytime we race at sillystone im embaressed to take any spectators with me as the experience isnt friendly

Considering this is a 24hr event - there doesn't seem to be any info available, which is a bit naff

It's a pity Silverstone aren't doing more to promote this - perhaps they're waiting to see how it goes and then maybe jump on the band wagon for next year???

Couldn't agree more. I live about 8-10 miles from Silverstone and, with about 3 or 4 weeks to go, there has been absolutely nothing in our local media about this race. This is potentially a massive opportunity for Silverstone and the EERC to show off what they're all about but it seems as though they're not interested. I'd have thought posters in my local shop windows would have been a good start, a la Le Mans and the surrounding area. Tell people about it, sell it as an entertaining weekend for all the family, not just us endurance racing fans, and you'll get people through the gates.

Or is that me just being too logical? Personally, I can't wait for the race. Agreed the entry looks pretty strong; some top names in there.

I too live within 10 mins of the circuit and this is the first I've heard of it.

Some interesting cars and teams on the entry list. I see that Channel 5 have a car with VBH, Tiffany Dell and Jason Plato - should get some sort of TV coverage then

The BRSCC is the organiser for the Britcar 24. And after the events at the LMES race, I'll be surprised if it goes smoothly. At the moment there are only just enough marshal's to cover the event. Don't forget guys, you'll need a dark practice too on the friday.

The EERC - (Mr James Tucker) are the 'promotors' for this meeting, it's upto them to ensure there is enough advertising.

I truely hope it goes well, but I have my doubts. It'll be nice to have a 2nd 24 hour race in the UK (2CV's being the other)

I didn`t realise that the EERC get no cash from ticket sales on the gate. Silverstone get the lot. What ever your thoughts may be on JT & the EERC he`s paid up front for the circuit, (circa £120k for the weekend), and so where`s the incentive for him to get bums on seats as it were. Obviously he wants the event to go well but it seems odd and very unfair for the club not to get gate money. This would encourage them to spend more money on promotion. Could this be the failing of UK motorsport ?

What incentive have Silverstone got to promote the event. They already have a nice little chunk in the pot. Why waste it trying to get people in the gate for a measly 25 quid a head. They will only drop litter and need tidying up after. No keep them nasty crowds away. Save on rubish bags, toilet paper, car park attendants and crowd control, then think of how to spend £120,000

It`s a bit like Glastonbury covering their arses with the TV money then deciding not to bother getting people in. Far more profitable and accountant friendly.

If you grow to the size of the TOCA package then you get to negotiate gate revenue, unfortunately you have to get there first.

That's the most bizarre thing I've heard for a long time. As you say, what's the point of Silverstone even opening the gates for us grubby punters to come in and enjoy ourselves for a weekend? I thought it was strange that James and the gang hadn't advertised this event locally. Now it makes sense. I s'pose he wants to see how this one goes before shouting too loudly about it...

Still, if you don't shout about it and there's no crowd it deemed a failure anyway. So they should be shouting all they can and getting as many punters through the gate as possible.

I phoned the circuit this morning to see if it would be possible to park a touring caravan inside the circuit since it is an overnight race and we only really want a base. "Dunno Mate!" the reception guy said,"ring back on Thursday" and with that he put the phone down on me.

Blimey, you got through to someone! I was trying to phone them all morning to enquire about tickets and camping, without success (constantly engaged or on hold forever). Sent them a fax (!) in the end asking them to ring me back, which they did! Apparently the '06 BGP tickets went on sale today which is why the phones were so busy.

I asked someone at Silverstone last week about camping and was told that there wasn't any inside the perimeter of the circuit grounds! Seems pretty daft to me if they're trying to get this event off the ground as a British 'Le Mans'. I s'pose it goes back to what HenryF was saying previously; why do they want punters coming in (spending money...) and (possibly) making a mess of the place when they could just dissuade us from coming by making the whole race weekend as unattractive as possible.

Still looking forward to it though! Just have to kip in my car (assuming I can take that in...)

sorry to say that unless it belongs to a member of one of the teams (or a Noble) parking inside will not be possible, or so I was told

If any incredibly attractive young ladies with ample bossoms require a team member to join them for the evening and thus allow entry of their fully air conditioned American motorhome into the circuit I would be willing to take a hit for the troops !

To bad the Britcar race clashes with the WSR so looks like I got to be at Donington.
