I'm looking at this too.

As long as they don't neuter cars like mine, I'm aiming to be there.

When I first muted the idea of running my thundersaloon in Britcar this year, some eyebrows were raised.

I had a long chat with John at the Autosport show, and one of my ideas is to wait until Mr Plod gets the new Vauxhall/Opel Omega (Holden Commodore V8). They will have them in their hundreds and beat the hell out of the trim etc.., but maintain the running gear in tip top for two or three years, then it's off to the auctions, and change out of 3K sould see you with a vehicle ripe for Britcar V8.

I did hear rumblings (unconfirmed)that Ford may copy the move and bring the Aussie Falcon over here as they don't have a big saloon in Europe either.

Still, I'm going to prepare my car with dry-break refuelling, and maybe a new fuel cell (bigger!), ready for Britcar Class 1. After all, a doctored shopping car vs. a Ferrari, or GT3 Porsche.....

Hi Graham

I know they are extremely busy at the moment with the 24 hour.

If this does happen, then you need to understand the pace of an australian V8 before considering going there....reliable 600 hp is quite a proposition...

The quantity of potential machinery is extraordinary, but levelling the playing field with be very difficult. As Archibold said, an Aussie V8 Touring Car is going to destroy pretty much anything, except perhaps a DTM car - but they cost silly money.

The Original Press release quoted 2 classes from 400bhp to 480 bhp..

so It does look like they need to clarify things... It doesnt seem particularly good planning to release a press statement when your too busy to follow up enquiries, not even to return an e-mail saying ta we'll get back to you..

I'm not strangling my car down by circa 300bhp to compete with something that cost 10 times what mine did. I don't mind carrying weight, or having a fuel tank limit (requiring more fuel stops.

Though the more I think of it, they'd be better run as a separate class within Britcar itself. There will be too much dilution of the series if they keep adding new races, and that is not a good thing for the sport.

The early DTM machines can't do refuelling (without modifications), the later ones can. The Aussie V8's should handle it as they refuel at Bathurst etc..

This year's race has been quite eventful.

From a thunderstorm and a marshall shocked across the pitlane by a lightning strike during night qualifying.
To cancelling night quali and turning it into practice and some drivers doing virgin night laps in the race.
Tiff and VB-H have been doing well, but they've had problems overnight and

We ought to be able to get together a complete PH team of drivers, mechanics, etc.

Oooh, just heard VB-H say "they don't call me quick Vic for nothing" so I'll get her back with that later <evil>

Photos in due course, just filling up my hoem hard drive before going back to the circuit.
