LV house and contents insurance.
Discussion
We have three cars and the house with LV. For the cars we have used for 10 years . Renewal comes through each year and we always renew, the new premium is in some cases same ,less or a bit more but not crazy more . It never makes us shop around .
House insurance with contents we have the top cover . We have not made a claim. Last year £700 for top cover on everything, bungalow in Sussex.
Renewal has just come through £1380 .
I called them and they have a set answer , you can read it on the website actually. Inflation, rising costs etc . I called them to check it was not a mistake and they confirmed it's correct and there is no lesser quote available from them .
Do you think they are shedding some of their risk deliberately, not wanting me to renew .
I already have other quotes from elsewhere at near last year's price now. Have I upset LV ?

No, you're not alone. I don't insure with them, but a little old lady I know, 2 bed bungalow in Devon, building and contents £160 last year, never made a claim in years. This year renewal is £240. Same as you, standard answers, no wiggle room.
She renewed via the Meerkats for the same as last year with another insurer.

We have just moved house insurance from LV= to Aviva, the LV= renewal cost was just a couple of pounds less than double last years premium and the Aviva quote is for better cover for £100 less than the LV= renewal. Be interested to see what the car renewal cost is in a couple of weeks as that is also with LV=.
Very timely. Been with Policy Expert for a few years now and they throw in Legal and Home Emergency for "Free". Last year £146, renewal £193. Confused has the cheapest with Sky at £157, next nearest is £180 which suggests the Sky deal is an introductory offer. I'm likely to switch and just shop around next year, refreshing my quote on confused takes a matter of seconds.
We were insured through Churchill and our renewal is due this month. Of course the premium went up as expected (£250 to £330ish), but I still thought it worth having a look on comparison sites. I found the same cover through Churchill was available through them for £180.
I decided to pay a small amount more to go with Privilege because I've had good customer service with them for my car(s) and also that I felt Churchill were taking the mickey if I could have the same cover via a comparison site for so much less. They also made it more awkward than necessary to cancel the 'automatic renewal' presumably in the hope that some people will give up and not bother.
In short; I always shop around, even if my wife's car insurance renewal (through a different firm) was cheaper than the comparison sites offered, but at least I feel I've done my due diligence...

Had my car insured with LV last 3 yrs and always been reasonable. Last year was a big higher but I called up and it ended up pretty close to previous year so I took it. This years renewal was up 33%. Looked around found better (cheaper than last year with LV), called them to cancel (thinking that might prompt them to say why do you want to leave) and they didn't even question it so I left for Aviva. Looking at some of the other threads it seems I was pretty lucky to get a lower quote as many (not just LV) have gone up a lot this year.

No, you're not alone. LV='s renewal quote for us has risen from £287 to £937.
Comparable quotes elsewhere are in the £400 range, still ouch but not by that margin!
Clearly just trying it on. Plenty will think “oh no inflation” and just pay it. If enough do, it pays off for this year.Comparable quotes elsewhere are in the £400 range, still ouch but not by that margin!
My feeling is the piss takers will be scrambling around next year doing amazing deals because they’ve over-done it a bit this year.
Renewed with Hastings Direct in June this year: £100k contents and £1m buildings cover - no accidental cover nor any single high value item, but adequate for our needs. We have a 4 bed detached house in Hampshire and no claims for many years. Premium was £115 but got £35 cash back by using TopCashBack Compare, hence £80 which seems pretty good. Some of the quotes mentioned above are ridiculous.

Did a price comparison and was shocked to see same cover for £230 to about £400
Just renewed with Aviva as been with them 15+ years (claimed about £6k over that period), 20% increase but couldn't get it any cheaper with any decent company.Did a price comparison and was shocked to see same cover for £230 to about £400

Well done although I hope you never have to claim as cannot believe they can offer a good claims service when that’s all they are charging. Our house/contents insurance all but doubled this year ,and as said before ,complaints were met with the same script ,blaming increase in claims , I pointed out I had not claimed for many years ,but they would not shift , so I did , same terms etc ,a lower cost than last year renewal let alone this year ,and club card points ,yup Tesco
I'm with LV. Last year the renewal came through, it was a decent increase, probably about 30% can't fully remember.
The renewal letter said this the best price we can give, don't phone us our agents won't be able to lower it.
Went elsewhere for roughly the previous years price. I'm sure at time underwriters change or risk profiles and they don't want you anymore, maybe that is the case.
