Monday morning glitch. whilst sat in traffic this morning i glanced over at the oil pressure guage to find it at full-scale ( max ).
i'm thinking sender/wire off somewhere.
anyone know where i could take a look before i go running to the garage?

If you peer down through engine bay to the oil filter you can see the pressure sensor and wires, mine did what yours has done, I cleaned wires but no good so I fitted a new one. 35 pounds I believe, now all ok.

Same with mine a few months ago, new sender was needed.
I got a garage to fit the new one, it looked to impossible to get at without having access from underneath.
I think it was around £40 for the sender unit.

I'm sure i've read one post that the oil sender switch only cost around £3.00.

Yes but the oil sender switch is the switch that turns of the oil pressure warning light and is just a few pounds. The oil pressure sensor drives the guage is totally different and is around £30-40.

Thanks chaps.
any measurements i can make to establish if the sensor is at fault?
any pitfalls for the unwary in replacing one of these?

Make sure you know what it looks like so you can pick the correct one out of the parts catalogue. It has a tapered thread so it may be easier to also remove the brass insert and fit the 2 parts together before re-fitting. It is quite difficult at some angles to get spanners etc in the hole so experiment with difeering jzck heights (and an axle stand).
