We have a hand-me-down MK3 Focus.

It is shod with a set of fairly new Alliance o30ex tyres.

They are awful, particularly in the wet, but not good in the dry either. Feel is poor and the turn-in sketchy. The car itself should be reasonably good (Focus Zetec with IRS)

(Yes, I know that 99.9% of drivers wouldn't notice the difference....Even when they plough straight on in the wet when failing to avoid an obstacle)

It will be interesting to see how much better the car is on a set of Rainsport 5 or CrossClimates.

There are several very good 4-season tyres at that price point, I would go for 4-season over any 3-season tyre for general road use.

I do like the Rainsport 5. We live in a mild climate at sea level, but I'd be interested in decent dry performing all-seasons for similar money to the Rainsport.

I had a set of Goodyear Vector Gen 3 fitted.

First impressions are good traction and lateral grip on damp, greasy roads. Taking much more provocation to break away, which adds to safety. No more feeling of skating on ice on damp roads.

The ride feels smoother too.

Those Alliance tyres were fairly new, but absolute rubbish.
